New for our Hawai`i island viewers, "Huaka`i - A Personal Voyage Through Hawaiian Culture - A Visit With Dr. Baron Kahola Ching."
Baron shares with us his own journey in two ways - how he became interested in the culture as well as the path he took to become a dancer, chanter and a speaker of Hawaiian, and his other journey he embarked on by hiking to the very top of Mauna Kea and back and the lasting impact it had on him.
This unique segment contains images of Baron as he traversed the various altitudes of Mauna Kea and the stunning beauty of the land that most of us never get to see.
WEDNESDAY, June 22nd - On Akaku, Channel 53 at 6:30 PM.
"Guardians Of The Light - A Visit With Peter Jensen." A brand new segment for our Maui and Moloka`i viewers, Peter recounts how he, as a Hawaiian, witnessed the wholesale destruction of Makua Valley by the US military.
He also reveals that he and his family would have had land taken away had mandatory lease-hold conversion succeeded in Honolulu earlier this year.
As he did some soul-searching to discover what his role would be to help stop the desecration and theft, he found himself transforming from potential victim to telling the stories to others as an award winning producer for `Olelo television on `Oahu.

SATURDAY, June 25th - On 'Olelo this Saturday at 8 PM.
"Defiant Hawaiian - A Visit With Dr. Jon Kamakawiwo`ole Osorio." In this second brand new segment of our new season, Jon shares with us his own awakening as Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian,) how it was passed down in his family, his becoming a professor of Hawaiian history and eventually head of Kamakakuokalani, the Center For Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawai`i.
Jon also reveals background of what went into writing his groundbreaking book, "Dismembering Lahui - A History of the Hawaiian Nation to 1887," and how what occurred during that period in Hawai`i is repeating itself today in the push to extinguish Hawaiian rights through federal recognition.
This segment is a fascinating and inspiring story of one of the most accomplished Kanaka Maoli role models of our time. Don't miss it.
