A RARE VOYAGE TO THE NORTHWEST HAWAIIAN ISLANDS ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

This week we present the 2005 Educators Expedition to the Kupuna (Ancestor) Islands, also known as the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

Of course the environment of the Kupuna Islands is both very beautiful and fragile.

Kaua`i resident Sabra Kauka, who went on the trip, reports, "It’s our kuleana (responsibility) to protect this environment because it is the nursery for the younger, inhabited Hawaiian Islands. We Kanaka Maoli [Native Hawaiian] are spiritually, genealogically, and culturally linked to these Kupuna.”

We sat down with her and got the whole story in amazing and beautiful pictures and words. That's just part of what's in store this week on Voices Of Truth - One-On-One With Hawai`i's Future -

MONDAY, October 3rd - On Na Leo Television, channel 54, on both sides of Hawai'i island at 7:00 PM
"Perpetuating Makahiki - A Time Of Peace - A Visit With Kapono Souza." How important is it to observe Kanaka Maoli [Native Hawaiian]cultural practices today?

If you've ever asked yourself this question, then this is the segment to watch as Kapono Souza shares some answers that may surprise you.

Those of you who have not seen this amazing young Kanaka Maoli role model speak about his mission and passion for the culture and the movement are in for a real treat.

Because it really is true that when a person dedicates themselves to something, what they get for it is nothing compared to what they become because of it.

WEDNESDAY, October 5th - On Akaku, Channel 53 at 6:30 PM "Anthropology-An Hawaiian Journey - A Visit With Steven Boggs." Retired University of Hawai`i anthropology professor Steven Boggs, a long time resident, as well as a strong supporter of Independence for Hawai`i reveals what led him to that view.

He talks about his early years, visiting schools in Nanankuli and what 6 year old students taught him about being Kanaka Maoli and living under a foreign occupation.

Professor Boggs relates the dispossession of the Kanaka Maoli he has witnessed, what causes it, and most importantly, what we all can do about it.

Don't miss this inspirational message from an educator who not only has witnessed the past, but has a message of hope for the future.
