THE TRUTH IS OUT - 99% OF ALL HAWAIIANS DID NOT WANT THE U.S. TO ANNEX HAWAI`I
The Maui News - Letter to the Editor
Thurston Twigg-Smith pointed out his March 31 letter that the Native Hawaiian speaker of the House of the Legislature in 1898 requested the U.S. to annex Hawai`i.
How ironic that 99 percent of this speaker's countrymen, almost all of the Native Hawaiians throughout all the islands, signed a petition to U.S. Congress asking that the U.S. not annex Hawai`i.
This petition was rediscovered in the U.S. Archives only within the past 10 years, and today's Hawaiians were proud to find the signatures of their ancestors on this document.
