TREASURES OF MOLOKA`I ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

We're pleased to bring you two special individuals this week who have something very important in common.

Both from Moloka`i, they show us that age is not a factor when it comes to sharing one's expertise.

Mikiala Ayau-Pescaia is in the schools working with her students. Uncle Keli'i Mauwae has taught his students in the other classroom - outdoors.

So gather everyone around regardless of age and enjoy the beauty and message of Moloka`i this week on Voices Of Truth - One-On-One With Hawai`i's Future.

MONDAY, January 30th - On Na Leo Television, channel 54, on both sides of Hawai'i island at 7:00 PM
"Kuleana Focus - A Visit With Mikiala Ayau-Pescaia."

If you've ever wondered why Moloka'i people are so special, here's your answer.

In Mikiala, we find one of those individuals who's an early achiever. As the Moloka'i coordinator for Na Pua No`eau, this young makuahine (woman) is a superb educator and academic culturalist.

We're sure it will be as obvious to you as it is to us how much she treasures her culture and how she puts those treasures to work each and every day.

Be sure and tune in for this one as Mikiala shares her gems of wisdom with us, and see for yourself how each of us can discover our own kuleana (area of responsibility) to create a better future for Hawai`i.

WEDNESDAY, February 1st - On Akaku, Channel 53 at 6:30 PM
"An Artist-Educator's Contribution To The Future - A Visit With Meleanna Aluli Meyer."

Here's the story of how one person can make a difference in the lives of many.

Our own Melanna Aluli Meyer, who happens to generate more energy than Hawaiian Electric, tell us of all her activities, two of which really stand out - her artwork, some of which she displays for us, and also her work that's creating a real impact, with Hawaiian girls at risk.

Of course besides all of this she's an award winning film maker, motivational speaker and author. Just give her another ten minutes or so and she'll be adding to that list of accomplishments.

Ever thought ,"How can little old me make a difference?" Then this is the one to watch as Melanna gives all of us enough inspiration to make anything happen.

THURSDAY, February 2nd - On Ho`ike, Channel 52 at 8:30 PM
"Hawaiian Superman - A Visit With Dr. Kanalu Young, PhD."

Rarely do we come across an individual as remarkable as Kanalu Young, a quadriplegic and Professor of Hawaiian history at the University of Hawai`i on O`ahu.

If that isn't impressive enough, he's also Director of the Masters Program at Kamakakuokalani, the Center For Hawaiian Studies on campus.

Even though he's currently bed ridden at home under doctor's orders, Kanalu accomplishes more in one day than most. Setting up his bedroom as his office, the world now comes to Kanalu - literally.

He meets on almost a daily basis with dignitaries and educators from all over the world as well as conducting his work for the university - all from his bed.

Of course we went calling on Kanalu, in his office/bedroom, and found an amazing individual indeed who lets absolutely nothing stop him.

So if you're looking for a big dose of high inspiration and want to meet a world-class expert at showing us all how to become unstoppable as well as putting our own challenges in perspective, sit down with your entire `ohana (family) and meet Hawai`i's Superman.

FRIDAY, February 3rd - On Na Leo Television, channel 54, on both sides of Hawai`i island at 5:30 PM.

"Ocean Resource - A Visit With Anakala Keli`i Mauwae."

Another Moloka`i treasure, Keli`i is a someone who has taken the natural resources of our ocean seriously.

A champion slack key guitar player as well as diver and fisherman, Keli`i has lived his conviction that our resources are sustainable - but only if we malama (care for) them.

While he shared with us details of his trips to Samoa and Washington, DC, his conviction that Hawai`i no ka 'oi (is the best) comes through loud and clear.

Taped on his Moloka`i ranch, don't miss this one as Keli'i serenades us with his music and speaks from the heart about issues important to us all that are indeed timeless.

Voices `of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.
