HAWAIIAN PATRIOTS IN ACTION ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Some of you may already know that a few days prior to the US Senate’s defeat of the Akaka bill on June 8th, some Hawaiians took it upon themselves to travel to Washington, DC at their own expense, and for three days prior to the vote, lobby US Congress to defeat the bill.

These Po`e Aloha `Aina (patriots,) seeing clearly what was at stake, knew they had to act.

They knew their mission - they did their work tirelessly –they were successful.

Over the next two weeks, we are honored to share with you two of those patriots, Clarence Ku Ching and Leon Siu.

When he got the phone call asking him to be part of the team to go, Ku, without a moments hesitation replied, “I’ll go and do what I need to do for my people and Nation.”

It was as simple and immediate as that.

We have showcased many role models, but none so powerful as those who saved a Nation.

Hawaiian patriots with both vision and mission, right here on

Former Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee, (at a time when the trustees were for Independence,) athlete, scientist, attorney, politician, activist and cultural practitioner, Ku shares with us his activities and why he does what he does as well as his vision for the future of Hawai`i.

Ku is someone who’s really seen it all over the years in the fight for self-determination. His insights and wisdom from all that he has given to the people of Hawai`i is remarkable.

A true inspiration, don’t miss this rare interview with Ku as he describes what’s really possible for the future of Hawai`i and her people seen through the eyes of this Kanaka Hawai`i Maoli visionary.

“Ocean Resource – A Visit With Anakala Keli`i Mauwae”

Another Moloka`i treasure, Keli`i is someone who has taken the natural resources of our ocean seriously.

A champion slack key guitar player as well as diver and fisherman, Keli`i has lived his conviction that our resources are sustainable - but only if we malama (care for) them.

While he shared with us details of his own trips to Samoa and Washington, DC, his conviction that Hawai`i no ka 'oi (is the best) comes through loud and clear.

Taped on his Moloka`i ranch, don't miss this one as Keli'i serenades us with his music and speaks from the heart about issues important to us all that are indeed timeless.

SATURDAY, June 24th At 8:00 PM - O`ahu - 'Olelo, Channel 53
“Global Warrior – A Visit With Mililani Trask”

Virtually everyone in Hawai`i has heard of Mililani Trask.

Most are familiar with her many years at the forefront of the self-determination struggle for the Hawaiian Nation.

But not everyone many know of her more recent work on the world stage to advance the cause of a Free Hawai`i.

With her frontline participation as part of the Pacific Caucus in the fifth annual Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at the UN in New York this week and next, we made an effort to catch up with Mililani recently at `Iolani Palace.

What she told us was both fascinating and exciting.

As head of Na Koa Ikaika O Ka Lahui Hawai`i, Mililani spends her time at the United Nations in New York City and Geneva, Switzerland, among other world capitals, to bring the international family of nations together to demand the U.S. own up to its complicity in what happened 113 years ago by ending human rights abuses against Native Hawaiians, and returning Hawai`i’s land and natural resources to their rightful owners.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to find out how other peoples of the world view the illegal overthrow and occupation of Hawai`i and what goes on at the highest levels of world diplomacy to make it right.

Voices of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.
