GRASS ROOTS SOLUTIONS ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Last week we began to put forth the question, “What now, after the Akaka bill?”

Little did we realize how many would begin to offer your amazing mana`o (thoughts.)

With the Office of Hawaiian Affairs' out of touch plans to continue to pursue a federal recognition solution as well as their already abandoned and ludicrous idea to spend 40 million dollars of beneficiaries money to buy a Honolulu television station, it’s abundantly clear that real solutions will be coming from where they always have – the grass roots.

This week we feature individuals who have worked at the grass roots level for some time.

Mililani Trask, Dexter Kaiama and of course the Gwich’in in Alaska all know from experience that true solutions come from the bottom up.

And we’ll soon have brand new segments airing featuring both Leon Siu and Clarence Ku Ching, talking about their experiences on Capitol Hill last month in Washington, DC helping to defeat the Akaka bill using their grass roots skills.

Real people producing real results on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

MONDAY, July 10th At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, July 14th At 5:30 PM - Hawai`i Island - Na Leo, Channel 54
“Global Warrior – A Visit With Mililani Trask"

Virtually everyone in Hawai`i has heard of Mililani Trask.

Most are familiar with her many years at the forefront of the self-determination struggle for the Hawaiian Nation.

But not everyone many know of her more recent work on the world stage to advance the cause of a Free Hawai`i.

With her frontline participation as part of the Pacific Caucus in the fifth annual Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at the UN in New York this week and next, we made an effort to catch up with Mililani recently at `Iolani Palace.

What she told us was both fascinating and exciting.

As head of Na Koa Ikaika O Ka Lahui Hawai`i, Mililani spends her time at the United Nations in New York City and Geneva, Switzerland, among other world capitals, to bring the international family of nations together to demand the U.S. own up to its complicity in what happened 113 years ago by ending human rights abuses against Native Hawaiians, and returning Hawai`i’s land and natural resources to their rightful owners.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to find out how other peoples of the world view the illegal overthrow and occupation of Hawai`i and what goes on at the highest levels of world diplomacy to make it right.

“A Violation Of Trust – Part One”

At their conference in Honolulu last August, the Council For Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) invited several representatives of federally recognized Native American tribes and Alaska Native Corporations to promote the economic benefits of federal recognition and oil drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge.

When the Gwich'in, the native people who actually live on that land asked to participate in the discussions, the CNHA refused their request.

Not to be silenced, the Gwich'in did come to Honolulu and, with help from their many Hawai`i supporters, presented panel discussions and an Artic Film Festival at the State Capitol.

They also rented a conference room close to the CNHA convention to share the truth with all who would listen.

What they revealed was stunning.

A proud and self-sufficient people, the Gwich'in refuse to allow the violation of their natural environment.

They recount their life of poverty and deprivation under federal recognition and their constant battles with the US federal government and alien economic opportunists.

It has become clearly apparent that certain individuals within the CNHA have been secretly working with senators from both Alaska and Hawai`i to promote drilling in the ANWR, against the wishes of the Gwich'in, and also to force federal recognition here in Hawai`i - for personal gain.

In this emotionally charged segment, hear the truth for yourself - what the CNHA has tried to hide as Alaskan Natives describe how oil is destroying their physical and spiritual health and their traditional lives. Hear the disastrous effects of federal recognition on these special people.

Faces Of The Nation – Voices Of Truth Live At `Iolani Palace – Part Two

We continue our fascinating interviews at `Iolani Palace grounds last January when Native Hawaiians and their supporters gathered to spend the weekend showing everyone the Hawaiian Nation is still alive.

As in part one, we continued to discover specialists in every field of endeavor - people who will ably fill the needs of the Nation, who know our history and understand a Free Hawai`i benefits everyone.

In this segment we meet Native Hawaiian attorney Dexter Kaiama.

As a relative newcomer to the movement, Dex talks of his background, his involvement with Hui Pu, and exactly what made him become involved in helping to create a better future for all of Hawai`i’s people.

With the Akaka bill defeated, if you’re wondering, “What now?” this is one to watch. Dexter is filled with passion and ideas about the Hawai`i of tomorrow as anyone you’ll want to meet. Full of inspiration and possibility, he reminds us of the potential in us all.
