THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE - BUT NOT THE ONES YOU THINK - ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The holidays are upon us – but not the ones you might think.

Traditionally October through January marks the Makahiki when men, women and chiefs rested from their work. It was a time in old Hawai`i free from labor.

Anyone wondering how an entire society could take four months off a year and still experience a bounty of food and everything else life offers need look no further than the Hawaiian culture.

Stop for a moment and compare today’s hectic, non-stop life to one of the most advanced cultures history has ever known.

Wouldn’t you like to live in a society where you work eight months, take four off and still have everything you need and want?

Kapono Aluli Souza knows the difference between thriving versus just surviving.

He recognizes the enormous value of that for himself, his `ohana (family) and his people. We sat down with Kapono and found out why and how he leads Makahiki observance each year.

Don’t miss our visit with this fascinating Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) role model who’s mission is to see that Hawai`i’s people thrive once again.

Finally, La Ku`oko`a, Hawaiian Independence Day is Tuesday.

It’s more than marking a time when a Free Hawai`i entered into treaties with the major nations of the world and had established over ninety legations and consulates in multiple seaports and cities around the world.

More than anything else, it marks a growing realization that for the people of Hawai`i today to have true Makahiki, Hawai`i must again become free.

It’s yet another reminder that when Hawaiians thrive, so does everyone else.

Happy holidays from Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

Those of you who have not seen this amazing young Kanaka Maoli role model speak about his mission and passion for the culture and the movement are in for a real treat.

WEDNESDAY, November 29th At 6:30 PM & THURSDAY, November 30th At 6:45 AM Maui – Akaku, Channel 53
“Sacred Caretaker – A Visit With Junior Kanuha”

Every now and then we come across someone who feels the call of a place and is moved to do something about it.

Junior Kanuha, Kanaka Maoli with deep roots in North Kona, Moku o Keawe is just such a person.

Waterman, businessman, community activist and energetic supporter of all things Hawaiian, Junior’s made a personal commitment to cleaning up and caring for wahi pana kahiko, ancient sacred sites.

Keolonahihi in North Kona is the place he cares for – both figuratively and literally. Here’s the extraordinary part – no one asked him to.

Junior tells us he’s just following spiritual direction – he says he’s only the gardener, the caretaker, ka hapai opala, the guy who hauls off the trash.

Don’t miss Junior as he explains not only what he does but also why he does it, revealing along the way the history and significance of this extraordinary place of beauty and ancient history.

THURSDAY, November 30th At 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, December 1st At 8:30 AM Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52

“The Well Being Of The Nation – A Visit With Bumpy Kanahele”

As someone who’s been involved for many years in the Native Hawaiian self-determination movement, Bumpy has pretty much seen and heard it all.

Yet he realized one day how fundamentally important Hawaiian health is, for if you prematurely get sick and die, what does living in a Free Hawai`i matter?

So Bumpy created Malama First.

Bumpy describes for us his I-Health Bio-Energy Feedback system used to assist Hawai`i's kupuna (elders) in attaining a healthy balance and harmony between major organs in the body.

Bumpy makes sure kupuna are treated free or on a very generous sliding scale and no one is turned away for financial reasons.

Don’t miss Bumpy in this never before seen segment as he reveals a critical insight – while there are many paths to unity, none are more fundamentally important than through health and wellness.
