WHY HAWAI`I DOESN'T NEED THE AKAKA BILL ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

On Friday the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against a group of taxpayers in Hawai`i who claim the so-called “state” unconstitutionally discriminates against non-Hawaiians by giving money to programs that only benefit Hawaiians.

While those who brought the suit plan to appeal, we see courts upholding funding for Native Hawaiians and their programs once again.

And while we must always remember that it’s the occupiers courts that render these decisions, it does expose one, very important fact.

We don’t need the Akaka bill.

Proponents of federal recognition will try to get you to believe that without the Akaka bill, Native Hawaiians and funding for Native Hawaiian programs are at grave risk.

As we can see once again, nothing is further from the truth.

The real purpose of the Akaka bill is not to protect you, it’s to legitimize and seal forever the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom over a century ago and perfect or legalize land title in Hawai`i into the hands of the thieves and end any legal recourse by the wronged - you.

Memorize the above sentence and repeat it to everyone you know and meet - spreading the truth is indeed the key for a Free Hawai`i.

This week we have three individuals who have taken the time to educate themselves and now let others know the dangers of federal recognition.

Don’t miss Rebecca Tsosie of Arizona, Maui Solomon from Aotearoa and our own Andre Perez with their important and timely messages this week on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“A Journey Of Occupation – A Visit With Andre Perez”

What would it be like to be in the US military for eight years, then find yourself living on the streets?

That’s what happened to Andre Perez who went from one extreme to another.

And from the streets, he found his way into the Kaho`olawe occupation, which, by his own accounts, was a life-changing experience.

It had to be because Andre’s never at a loss for words when it comes to defending his people that led him to the next chapter of his life.

Currently the spokesperson for Hui Pu, as well as a Halau Lokahi teacher, Andre recently found himself in the middle of yet another occupation – the dramatic taking of `Iolani Palace last year by Hui Pu to publicly oppose the Akaka bill.

As we look to the future of Hawai`i, we’re sure you’ll agree with us that Andre and others like him will play a prominent role in it.

Don’t miss our visit with Andre who’s part of the new generation of warriors who are as fearless as they are articulate. You’ll see why he’s a role model for the `opio (young) of today as well as a leader for tomorrow.

TUESDAY, February 13th At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, February 14th At 6:30 AM Maui – Akaku, Channel 53
“Even They Can See It – A Visit With Maui Solomon & Rebecca Tsosie”

Maui Solomon, a Maori from Aotearoa (New Zealand,) and Rebecca Tsosie, a member of the Yaqui tribe from southern Arizona, come from two different worlds geographically apart.

Yet, they have much in common.

Successful attorneys, both Maui and Rebecca focus their legal practice in helping to protect their own native people.

And both have seen the devastating effects of federal recognition in their own lands.

“Don’t let it happen here,” is the message they brought to us loud and clear.

By describing what did happen to their people after federal recognition, we have an opportunity to see both the “before and after” picture. And it’s one they tell us it’s a mistake we don’t ever want to make.

You’ll be as hooked as we were as they describe the very same slick arguments and false promises their own politicians put forth to sell federal recognition as those we’ve heard in Hawai`i. And you'll be equally as disgusted when you hear the results. Compelling as they are convincing, their message is one all of us need to hear.

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.

Those not in Hawai`i wishing to view the series may do so by visiting http://www.olelo.org and then clicking “NAT- Channel 53.” A screen should then display allowing you to see the show via live streaming.
