SHOULD APRIL 30TH OF EVERY YEAR BE PROCLAIMED AS HAWAIIAN RESTORATION DAY ?

Here's What One Long Time Activist Says -

My name is Melvin Lono Kaiolohia Kalahiki and I am a long time advocate of affairs stemming from the 1893 illegal overthrow, the annexation and the U.S. occupation of the Hawaiian Nation.

As you all know for a good part of the 20th century there was a blackout of information on the events of 1893.

Nothing of that was taught in our schools and very little accurate information in the media. We were not taught our history or our language.

I am nearing 82, and I can remember when I first learned the true story of what happened in 1893.

I did not learn it in school.

I learned it when I was a grown man with a family of my own. I remember when I first read the following words of President Cleveland regarding the illegal overthrow...."As I look and contemplate the means used to complete this outrage, I am ashamed of the whole affair."

These words have stayed with me ever since.

Those words are a good reason why this Resolution, which is before you, should pass. It is an honorable document.
