HAWAIIANS OPPOSED TO FEDERAL RECOGNITION

Native Hawaiian Group Submits Thousands Of Signatures With Testimony to US Senate

May 2, 2007

Aloha Mai Kakou, greetings from Hawai`i,

Please accept the attached record of signatures from the Hawaiian community as a record of evidence that we Hawaiians do not desire the Akaka Bill.

The Akaka Bill has been forced upon us by certain powerful individuals and agencies against our will.

We Hawaiians have never had input on the Akaka Bill as its creators and author never held island-wide public hearings or education on the Bill.

This can only be described as un-democratic and un-American.

The Hawaiian people reject the Akaka Bill because we were not part of its creation nor did we have any say whatsoever in its content.

The Akaka Bill was drafted by a non-Hawaiian from Washington DC and at this present time the Bill is being discussed and debated by non-Hawaiians while those whom the Bill affects are left off to the side as if we don't exist.

This is insulting and dehumanizing to Hawaiians.

What about us? Do we not have a say in our own self-determination?

Where is the honor and integrity that America was founded upon? Has this been forgotten?

There is absolutely no concrete proof that even a majority of Hawaiians desire the Akaka Bill, neither for our future nor as an acceptable solution for reconciliation and justice.

Ask Senators Akaka and Inouye, “where is the concrete proof that Native Hawaiians desire the Akaka Bill?”

The sad truth is, there is none.

Please oppose the Akaka Bill as it is a disgrace to Hawaiian self-determination and American democracy.

Sincerely,

Andre Perez
