As you probably know, the Akaka bill sailed through committees in both the US Senate and House this past week.
It’s purposefully structured so that Hawaiians do not have to participate in any meaningful way for it to become law.
Rather, the Akaka bill is designed to be imposed on Hawaiians.
Adding insult to injury is the fact that while Senator Byron Dorgan chairs the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, he left Thursday morning’s hearing after only a few minutes and turned the meeting over to Senator Akaka to run.
Has there ever been a more clear-cut case of the fox guarding the henhouse?
Should the Akaka bill pass, Hawaiians would own no land at all – the US federal government would hold all Hawaiian land in trust.
That’s right - legal title to Hawaiian lands would be vested in the US Federal government and not you.
It’s becoming increasingly clear the more people know about this legislation, the less they like it.
Someone who knows this and a whole lot more is Baron Ching.

“History Beneath Our Feet – A Visit With Dr. Baron Ching”
Hawaiian history hooks Baron Ching, a doctor of internal medicine by training.
With not a drop of Hawaiian blood in him, Baron is nevertheless both a direct descendant of a Hawaiian Kingdom national and an expert in the history of Hawai`i’s illegal overthrow.
We met up with Baron at Thomas Square in Honolulu during the annual Ka La Ho`iho`i Ea, or Sovereignty Restoration Day ceremonies.
He not only recounts events that occurred with the British leading up to Hawai`i’s sovereignty being temporarily taken, but he also reveals the fascinating things that happened at the very place we were standing!
Movingly, he tells of his Chinese great grandfather, one of many non-Hawaiians who came to `Iolani Palace at the time of the US overthrow, arriving with his weapons, ready to defend the Queen.
