KNOWING OUR HISTORY & CREATING THE FUTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Mahalo to everyone who responded about our brand new segment with Baron Ching, “The History Beneath Our Feet.”

Yes, Baron is indeed an inspiration and we’re glad all of you mentioned the two most important things that moved you most.

First, how amazed a lot of you are about the history of Hawai`i’s illegal overthrow all around you. Some of you remarked that you walk or drive past those places each day.

Second, Baron’s a great reminder that Hawai`i was indeed a multi-ethnic nation.

And that’s one big difference between a Free Hawai`i and the Akaka bill, which would take only Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiians) and doom them to a life of deprivation as wards of the US federal government where even title to their lands would be held by the US.

Starting later this week, we’ll be reporting live each day from the United Nations in New York City on Free Hawai`i TV, a part of the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network.

The Koani Foundation is participating with other Native Hawaiian non-governmental organizations in articulating and addressing human rights, environmental, economic and social issues at the sixth annual Permanent Forum On Indigenous Issues.

Each year native Hawaiians and Pacific Region representatives join Indigenous leaders, senior United Nations officials, academics and over 1200 indigenous community members for two weeks to discuss challenges and strategies for improving conditions of the world’s indigenous peoples.

Naturally, we want to take all of you along with us, so staring Friday, you can watch our reports on http://FreeHawaiiTV.com

You’ll be able to actually go inside the UN right along with us and meet participants from the world over, hear about issues that affect them, and see our Pacific Region in action as we update you live as the action happens.

Its’ all part of our commitment to you and you can see it for yourself on Free Hawai`i TV as well as Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“History Beneath Our Feet – A Visit With Dr. Baron Ching”

Hawaiian history hooks Baron Ching, a doctor of internal medicine by training.

With not a drop of Hawaiian blood in him, Baron is nevertheless both a direct descendant of a Hawaiian Kingdom national and an expert in the history of Hawai`i’s illegal overthrow.

We met up with Baron at Thomas Square in Honolulu during the annual Ka La Ho`iho`i Ea, or Sovereignty Restoration Day ceremonies.

He not only recounts events that occurred with the British leading up to Hawai`i’s sovereignty being temporarily taken, but he also reveals the fascinating things that happened at the very place we were standing!

Movingly, he tells of his Chinese great grandfather, one of many non-Hawaiians who came to `Iolani Palace at the time of the US overthrow, arriving with his weapons, ready to defend the Queen.

Don’t miss our visit with Baron, one of those rare individuals who make history come alive. And we promise you’ll be as captivated as we were when Baron describes the day he found his great grandfather’s signature on the Ku`e Petitions.

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.
