CLAIMS OF AKAKA BILL SUPPORT DECEPTIVE

Office Of Hawaiian Affairs Ignores Polls Of Overwhelming Opposition To Federal Recognition

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) continues its deceptive claims of overwhelming popular support for the Akaka Bill in its latest ad in the 6/17 Honolulu Advertiser.

OHA admits that a much broader survey, with over 20,000 participants found overwhelming opposition to the Akaka bill (67%) but accuses that survey of being biased.

OHA conveniently fails to mention the negative results of the 2003 survey which it commissioned and paid for, and in which it helped design the questions.

And here's the results of a Honolulu Star-Bulletin Poll in 2005 -

"The US Senate Committee On Indian Affairs has approved the Akaka bill for a vote by the full Senate. Would you like to see the Akaka bill become law?"

Yes - 24.9%

NO - 74.3%
