PEOPLE POWER VERSUS SUPERFERRY ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The Superferry continues to be one of the hottest issues in Hawai`i in a long time.

So much so in fact we’re bringing you two new shows about everyday people who are standing up to stop it.

Our first new show, Radio Free Hawai`i, debuts this week.

Kaua`i resident Ka`iulani Edens-Huff saw right away she had to use her KKCR radio program to inform Kaua`i’s residents about what was really going on.

The result we, and the rest of the world now know – well over a thousand people showed up at Nawiliwili harbor to stop the Superferry as it arrived.

Even more turned out when Linda Lingle, governor of the so-called “state” of Hawai`i came to Kaua`i to hold a community meeting a few days later.

Result – Superferry service postponed indefinitely.

Our other new show, Super(Military)Ferry, features Jeff Satcher all the way down in Kawaihae on Hawai`i island.

Jeff’s message is very simple, “no Super (Military) Ferry in Kawaihae.”

Jeff’s volunteering his time, resources and high-tech skills in creating inter-island collaboration between the rapidly expanding groups of activists determined to stop the ship and the wanton disregard of the will of Hawai`i’s people by the US occupying force.

All this week both of these shows are airing repeatedly as specials on all islands. Check your local listings for days and times.

If you live off island, we’re putting both shows up on VoicesOfTruthTV so you may see them regardless of where on earth you live.

And we have new Superferry commentaries each Wednesday on FreeHawaiiTV.

As always, it’s our commitment to you to showcase everyday people who made the decision to go from armchair observers to activists in creating a better future for Hawai`i right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

MONDAY, October 1st At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, October 5th At 5:30 PMHawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53
“From The Atlantic To The Pacific – A Visit With Maurice Major”

Maurice “Mo” Major was born and raised very far from Hawai`i - on the Atlantic side of the North American continent in Virginia.

After graduating with a degree in anthropology, Mo and his college sweetheart began their married life in Hawai`i, the most remote location they could travel to without a passport, way out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Holding an archaeology permit from the State Historic Preservation Division, Mo specializes in research, stabilization and preservation of ancient Hawaiian sites.

His passion is the stunning beauty of remote and historically significant Nu`alolo Kai valley on the Na Pali coast of Kaua`i and his real gift is making the ancient past of Nu`alolo Kai come alive right before your eyes.

Mo’s been involved with Nu`alolo Kai archaeological work and Na Pali Coast `Ohana since 1996, and is primary author of both the archaeological inventory report and preservation plan for this amazing site.

Even when family obligations required Mo’s return to the family homestead in Virginia, he continued volunteering with Na Pali Coast `Ohana - collaborating by internet on short and long-term strategies, plans and reports.

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to the days of ancient Hawai`i, don’t miss our incredible visit with Mo as we travel with him into Na Pali Coast Park, a breathtaking wilderness area on the north shore of the island of Kaua`i, along 12 miles of undeveloped shoreline. It’s a trip you’ll never forget.

“Radio Free Kaua`i – A Visit With Ka`iulani Edens-Huff”

Ka`iulani Edens-Huff, Kanaka Maoli national and local talk-radio hostess is known for more than just talk. She also walks her talk.

With many years of active community involvement on Kaua`i, an issue came along recently that galvanized her even more – the Superferry.

Suddenly the microphone at KKCR radio was used to call the entire island to rise up in active opposition to the Superferry.

It worked – over one thousand residents answered Ka`iulani’s call and turned out at Nawiliwili harbor to stop the Superferry on its maiden trip.

A devoted wife and mother, yet never one to shy from controversy, Ka`iulani’s radio show, Songs of Sovereignty contains not only Hawaiian music, but information about current struggles on Kaua`i and throughout the Hawaiian Nation.

How can one wahine be so brave?

You’ll want to see this one, as we catch Ka`iu outside the radio, down at Nawiliwili Harbor, and inside the Superferry “security zone”. Be prepared for threats of bodily harm, pepper-spray and wall slamming. Join Ka`iulani in action, but you’d better be ready to rumble.

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.
