Ancient Hawaiian fishponds are a unique and advanced form of aquaculture found nowhere else in the world. Paepae o He`eia, built 800 years ago on the windward side of O`ahu, fed thousands of Hawaiians daily in old Hawai`i and today not only survives but thrives thanks to Hi`ilei Kawelo and her friends. Hi`ilei is the Executive Director of Paepae o He`eia and what she showed us on our tour not only amazed us but took us back in time like nothing else ever has.
