`AHA ALOHA `AINA DOES WHAT OHA REFUSED TO DO

Dear Secretary of State John Kerry,

On May 5, 2014, the CEO of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs sent a letter to Secretary of State, John Kerry inquiring about the legality of the United States' presence in Hawai`i.

To our knowledge that letter has never been adequately addressed.

On June 12, 2016 we will be holding an `Aha (official gathering) in Washington, DC pertaining to our governance, convened by `Aha Aloha `Aina. We hope to take the time to meet with you and your staff. We are available to meet from June 13-17, 2016, preferably on June 17, the commemoration of the day our Queen Lili`uokalani delivered her letter of protest to the illegal overthrow of our government and the subsequent attempts to annex Hawaii.

We appreciate your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Dr Kalamaoka`aina Niheu

BACKGROUND

This visit is a part of `Aha Aloha `Aina, a coalition of more than 40 Kanaka Maoli organizations, businesses, and Hawaiian leaders in our community dedicated to holding public meetings to determine the path forward for the healthy governance for our people utilizing our traditional framework called the Kino Kalaimoku. Like as seen with Hokule`a in her ongoing voyage, we hope to share the wisdom of our ancestors for the betterment of all mankind.

`Aha Aloha `Aina is a 100% community supported grassroots organization that utilizes zero tax payer funds. Due to the support of the community, we have been able to hold 21 free and open to the public `Aha (gatherings) throughout the islands. and several on the continental United States, among our Hawaiian diaspora community. Over the last 7 months approximately 2200 participants have been documented with 5 more planned in the next two months, one of which will be in Washington DC.
