Once a thriving village in old Hawai`i, Kaupo today is a sparsely populated remote district on Maui with a sustainable ranching community. Thatʻs where we met Alohalani Smith who told us of her exciting plans to revive and recreate ancient Kaupo. Deeply connected to the area, she filled us in on both the ancient as well as modern history of Kaupo which included dangerous fires and earthquakes.
