When we first heard about HULI, the Hawai`i Unity & Liberation Institute, we knew we had to talk with Andre Perez to discover what itʻs all about. Our curiosity was heightened even more because Andre, who was one of the protectors arrested at Mauna Kea, had also spent some time at Standing Rock leading trainings. When we met with him he explained HULI was created to train people throughout Hawai`i in highly effective non-violent direct action techniques.
