A group gathered Thursday morning in Hakipu'u to protest a project in an area they is filled ancestral bones. Now, Kualoa Ranch says they are halting the project for two weeks.
Thursday morning, about 120 people gathered to block the access road leading to a construction site near Kualoa Ranch.
"Protectors," as they call themselves, are blocking Johnson Road off Kamehameha Highway over construction crews allegedly disturbing burial sites in the area.
A spokes person for Kualoa Ranch released the following statement:
"We recognize that some of our neighbors have concerns about iwi in the area. We respect their concerns. We have agreed to stop construction for two weeks and look forward to meeting with the neighbors and representatives of the State Historic Preservation Department and O`ahu Island Burial Council."
