Celebrating Our Queenʻs Birthday & Why Sheʻs So Important Today, New Details On The Spreading Water Contamination At Red Hill & Public Outrage To The TMT At The US National Science Foundation Hearings

The September “Free Hawaii News” show which airs tonight, September 2nd at 6 PM on `Olelo Television Channel 53 on O`ahu will feature a special birthday tribute to Hawai`iʻs last reigning monarch, Queen Lili`uokalani, discuss why even more of Hawai`iʻs drinking water is now at risk because of spreading contamination at Red Hill and air a report about public opposition delivered to the US National Science Foundation regarding the Thirty Meter Telescope.

Brought to you by the Koani Foundation, Free Hawaii News airs the first Friday evening of every month on channel 53 of `Ōlelo Television on O`ahu at 6 PM.

The purpose of the show is to present Hawaiian or kanaka maoli perspectives on a broad range of topics and issues affecting the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific and the world.

The hosts of “Free Hawaii News” are Hinaleimoana Wong and Leon Kaulahao Siu.

Hinaleimoana Wong is a kumu hula, filmmaker, cultural activist, Hawaiian language speaker, preservationist and community leader. She has served as a member of the O`ahu Island Burial Council.

Leon Siu has for many years served as Foreign Minister of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He is active in that role at the United Nations in both New York City and Geneva, Switzerland. Besides being a diplomat, he is also an award-winning musician, composer and political analyst.

“We hope everyone tunes in for our very special tribute to Hawaiiʻs Queen on her birthday featuring author and filmmaker Meleanna Meyer” said Free Hawaii News co-host Hinaleimoana Wong.

“We also examine why even more of Hawai`iʻs drinking water is now at risk of contamination due to the US Navyʻs inaction at Red Hill and weʻll have an eye-witness report on the overwhelming public opposition to the Thirty Meter Telescope at the recent US National Science Foundation public hearings on Hawai`i Island,” remarked Free Hawaii News co-host Leon Siu.

After the initial airings on `Ōlelo, each episode of “Free Hawaii News” will be posted online on You Tube, Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites for viewers to see.

The hour long show features remote reports from Hawaiians in various communities about issues in their areas.
