American construct of democratic and republican philosophy mentality.
Western construct of identity predicated by sex and gender.
Foreign imposed worldview and solutions to problems based on issues brought by foreigners and foreigner ideology.
All of these things do not surmount the fact that I am Kanaka first.
Hawai’i is my mainland and there shall be no other land acknowledged as such in my vocabulary.
My culture requires me to live life according to the Kanaka rightful understanding of aloha.
This also goes for other elements part and parcel of being Kanaka according to Kanaka worldview and value system…NOT a “local” island based understanding of aloha, not a Hawaiian American English only speaking understanding of aloha, but the understanding of ALOHA through the lens of the language that I speak fluently learned from first language speakers.
My views are not solely my own. Sadly, I share these values with a very marginal population now as too many of my people have passed on to Pō, while others have fled to “cheaper living” America, and others remain enveloped and some consumed into the American imposed reality of living that we have been forced to accept.
To all of you reading this…just know…I am Kanaka first. American imposed realities won’t stop me from supporting a fellow Hawaiian if I feel compelled to do so.
Fair warning.
Don’t ever come for me in my own homeland.
You all should be aware that it’s how I feel about my world.
And for the rest of you Kanaka…please…try to be Kanaka first before being American…and do please try to do better.
The survival of our rightful existence as Kanaka depends on it.
