IS HAWAI`I PART OF THE US? WHAT DOES THE US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE SAY?

The U.S. Justice Department knows that in 1898 the Congress of the United States made a grave mistake by attempting to annex Hawai`i by joint resolution 51.

They violated their own laws.

Hawaiians were not allowed to vote for or against annexation.

The U.S. Senate tried two times to pass a treaty of annexation of Hawai`i. Twice it failed.

Hereʻs what the US Justice Department stated almost one hundred years later on October 4, 1988 during the Ronald Reagan presidency -

"It is therefore unclear which constitutional power congress exercised when it acquired Hawai'i by joint resolution.

"Accordingly, it is doubtful that the acquisition of Hawai'i can serve as an appropriate precedent for a congressional assertion of sovereignty..."
