FREE HAWAI`I NEWS TO NOW AIR ON ALL ISLANDS
The Koani Foundation has announced that its newest show, Free Hawaii News, will begin airing on all islands throughout Hawaii starting this month.
“We are excited to let everyone know that whether you live on O`ahu, or any of our neighbor islands, you will be able to view Free Hawaii News each month on your local access television station starting in January,” stated Free Hawaii News co-host Leon Siu.
“From the beginning, people who live outside of O`ahu asked us to bring Free Hawaii News for broadcast to their neighbor island. We are happy to announce we have now done just that,” remarked co-host Hinaleimoana Wong.
Free Hawaii News will air on Ho`ike Television on Kaua`i, on Akaku Television on Maui and also on Na Leo Television on Hawaii island. Viewers should check their local listings for days and times.
Brought to you by the Koani Foundation, Free Hawaii News which debuted only on O`ahu in April, 2022 features reports from Hawaiians in various communities about issues in their areas.
The purpose of the show is to present Hawaiian or kanaka maoli perspectives on a broad range of topics and issues affecting the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific and the world. The hosts of “Free Hawaii News” are Hinaleimoana Wong and Leon Kaulahao Siu.
Hinaleimoana Wong is a kumu hula, filmmaker, cultural activist, Hawaiian language speaker, preservationist and community leader. She has served as a member of the O`ahu Island Burial Council.
Leon Siu has for many years served as Foreign Minister of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He is active in that role at the United Nations in both New York City and Geneva, Switzerland. Besides being a diplomat, he is also an award-winning musician, composer and political analyst.
