PEOPLE POWER VERSUS SUPERFERRY ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The Superferry continues to be one of the hottest issues in Hawai`i in a long time.

So much so in fact we’re bringing you two new shows about everyday people who are standing up to stop it.

Our first new show, Radio Free Hawai`i, debuts this week.

Kaua`i resident Ka`iulani Edens-Huff saw right away she had to use her KKCR radio program to inform Kaua`i’s residents about what was really going on.

The result we, and the rest of the world now know – well over a thousand people showed up at Nawiliwili harbor to stop the Superferry as it arrived.

Even more turned out when Linda Lingle, governor of the so-called “state” of Hawai`i came to Kaua`i to hold a community meeting a few days later.

Result – Superferry service postponed indefinitely.

Our other new show, Super(Military)Ferry, features Jeff Satcher all the way down in Kawaihae on Hawai`i island.

Jeff’s message is very simple, “no Super (Military) Ferry in Kawaihae.”

Jeff’s volunteering his time, resources and high-tech skills in creating inter-island collaboration between the rapidly expanding groups of activists determined to stop the ship and the wanton disregard of the will of Hawai`i’s people by the US occupying force.

All this week both of these shows are airing repeatedly as specials on all islands. Check your local listings for days and times.

If you live off island, we’re putting both shows up on VoicesOfTruthTV so you may see them regardless of where on earth you live.

And we have new Superferry commentaries each Wednesday on FreeHawaiiTV.

As always, it’s our commitment to you to showcase everyday people who made the decision to go from armchair observers to activists in creating a better future for Hawai`i right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

MONDAY, October 1st At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, October 5th At 5:30 PMHawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53
“From The Atlantic To The Pacific – A Visit With Maurice Major”

Maurice “Mo” Major was born and raised very far from Hawai`i - on the Atlantic side of the North American continent in Virginia.

After graduating with a degree in anthropology, Mo and his college sweetheart began their married life in Hawai`i, the most remote location they could travel to without a passport, way out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Holding an archaeology permit from the State Historic Preservation Division, Mo specializes in research, stabilization and preservation of ancient Hawaiian sites.

His passion is the stunning beauty of remote and historically significant Nu`alolo Kai valley on the Na Pali coast of Kaua`i and his real gift is making the ancient past of Nu`alolo Kai come alive right before your eyes.

Mo’s been involved with Nu`alolo Kai archaeological work and Na Pali Coast `Ohana since 1996, and is primary author of both the archaeological inventory report and preservation plan for this amazing site.

Even when family obligations required Mo’s return to the family homestead in Virginia, he continued volunteering with Na Pali Coast `Ohana - collaborating by internet on short and long-term strategies, plans and reports.

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to the days of ancient Hawai`i, don’t miss our incredible visit with Mo as we travel with him into Na Pali Coast Park, a breathtaking wilderness area on the north shore of the island of Kaua`i, along 12 miles of undeveloped shoreline. It’s a trip you’ll never forget.

TUESDAY, October 2nd At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, October 3rd At 6:30 AM Maui – Akaku, Channel 53
THURSDAY, October 4th At 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, October 5th At 8:30 AM Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52
SATURDAY, October 6th At 8:00 PM O`ahu - ‘Olelo, Channel 53
“Radio Free Kaua`i – A Visit With Ka`iulani Edens-Huff”

Ka`iulani Edens-Huff, Kanaka Maoli national and local talk-radio hostess is known for more than just talk. She also walks her talk.

With many years of active community involvement on Kaua`i, an issue came along recently that galvanized her even more – the Superferry.

Suddenly the microphone at KKCR radio was used to call the entire island to rise up in active opposition to the Superferry.

It worked – over one thousand residents answered Ka`iulani’s call and turned out at Nawiliwili harbor to stop the Superferry on its maiden trip.

A devoted wife and mother, yet never one to shy from controversy, Ka`iulani’s radio show, Songs of Sovereignty contains not only Hawaiian music, but information about current struggles on Kaua`i and throughout the Hawaiian Nation.

How can one wahine be so brave?

You’ll want to see this one, as we catch Ka`iu outside the radio, down at Nawiliwili Harbor, and inside the Superferry “security zone”. Be prepared for threats of bodily harm, pepper-spray and wall slamming. Join Ka`iulani in action, but you’d better be ready to rumble.

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.

If you missed a show, want you see your favorites again or you don’t live in Hawai`i, here’s how to view our shows anytime – visit VoicesOfTruthTV.com and simply click on the episodes you wish to view.

HONOLULU ADVERTISER TEEN EDITORIAL BOARD SPEAKS OUT ON HAWAI`I'S HOMELESS

Government Needs To Address Dire Lack Of Affordable Housing.

I see them all the time, at parks, beaches and bus stops with their huge bags and grocery carts.

There are more than 3,000 homeless people living on O`ahu alone, and these numbers don't seem to be decreasing.

There are also huge amounts of people living in poverty and who are on the verge of becoming homeless. The lack of affordable housing has become a major issue for these people.

I know of a family of nine that had applied for and were accepted for Section 8 rental assistance.

Today - a year and two months later- they are still waiting for assistance.

They are still on the A list (first priority), but they have not been awarded the assistance yet. They have been told they may receive notice of the funds being available tomorrow, or next year, maybe even five years from now.

Families like these are faced with the possibility of becoming homeless.

As I see more and more apartment buildings being made with rents that often run about $4,000 a month per apartment, I wonder if the government is aware of how many people in Hawai`i are in desperate need of affordable housing.

How is it possible to have a sustainable life without a home?

How is it possible to have a sustainable Hawai`i if there are growing amounts of people without a place to live?

The sooner the government deals with the problem at hand, the more sustainable Hawai`i will become.

LINGLE THREATENS CHILDREN & PARENTS TO PROTECT SUPERFERRY

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

...According to a Garden Island News article , if children are found in the path of the Superferry, parents...could be subject to an investigation by the Department of Human Services.

From the Garden Island article - Jimmy Trujillo, spokesman for Hui-R, said he was in the water last month because "I was compelled to do what is necessary to protect the laws of this state."

Many others agreed, saying it was the Superferry that was breaking state and federal laws, not them.

Lingle's threat to have children taken by CPS (Child Protective Services) should be disavowed by the Department of Human Services.

CPS is not a political weapon to be used against anyone.

LINGLE CALLS SUPERFERRY PROTESTORS "UN-HAWAI`I-LIKE"

Protestors Are Hawai`i Patriots - Illegal US Occupation is Un-Hawaiian

Honolulu Star-Bulletin - Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Government leaders are still wondering what to do after the Hawai`i Supreme Court ordered that an environmental study be done for the Hawai`i Superferry.

On the heels of the high court decision, a Maui circuit judge put service to Kahului on hold pending arguments whether Superferry can operate while the study is done.

Also last month, protesters on Kaua`i blocked the Superferry from docking at Nawiliwili Harbor, and that run has been postponed since....

"This started out as a Superferry issue, but it has now escalated into a development issue. Now it is a bigger issue, bringing people together and starting a healing process," Luke said.

Gov. Linda Lingle, an early supporter of the ferry who was cursed and booed last week when she went to Kaua`i with a team of officials to brief citizens about plans for the ferry, said Hawai`i is losing its tolerance.

Her trip had taken on a military tone as Lingle announced a "unified command" of county, state and federal law enforcement officials who would arrest demonstrators who violated state or federal laws.

In light of those threatened demonstrations, ferry officials canceled Friday the planned resumption of service to Kaua`i for an indefinite period.

Lingle said yesterday she is struggling to find a compromise.

Commenting on last week's Kaua`i protests at the meeting, Lingle said "it was beyond rude, it was un-Hawai`i-like...."

State courts on Maui and Kauai are hearing requests for a permanent injunction to block service to both islands while the environmental assessment is completed.

"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH," HAWAI`I RESIDENTS CRY

Superferry Clash Exposes Tipping Point

Honolulu Advertiser- Sunday, September 23, 2007

Planners and developers in Hawai`i sometimes talk about a "tipping point," where pressure builds until unexpected and rapid change happens.

The controversy over the Hawai`i Superferry may be a sign the state is teetering at such a point, a time when significant numbers of people here feel they can't escape the effects of more tourists and residents, more cars, houses and hotels.

When the Kaua`i protesters and a Maui court ruling stalled the Superferry, the anger that boiled up statewide on both sides of the issue showed the dispute was about much more than an undone environmental report for a water-borne interisland shuttle.

Some suggest the Superferry controversy tapped into anxiety that has been building during years of record or near-record tourism and growth in Island communities.

That unease may be felt more acutely on the Neighbor Islands, where cruise ships and direct flights from the Mainland in recent years delivered crowds of tourists to places that weren't accustomed to them, or so many of them....

Kaua`i Mayor Bryan Baptiste issued a statement Friday describing the Superferry as the "lightning rod" for community alarm over the pace of change and development.

For the past seven years, Kaua`i's economy has been going full blast.

Wealthy newcomers have blocked public access to beaches, and built homes with fences and gates around them. Home prices have risen to between 10 and 20 times the annual median income, and property taxes have surged as well.

Among the protesters on the Nawiliwili jetty to block the Superferry were doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, union agents, construction workers, Hawaiian activists, retirees, students, pharmacists, college professors, tourist-industry workers, government workers, contractors...

"A lot of people are just fed up with the big money coming in and pushing them around, and never apologizing," said Kai`opua Fyfe, who makes motivational videos on Hawaiian issues with the Koani Foundation, and who has not been involved in the Superferry protest.

"I saw this as another development setup, where the state got hooked in really early, and all the questions that should have been asked never got asked...."

PROTESTERS KILL SUPERFERRY

Voice Of Citizens Heard - People Power Wins

Honolulu Advertiser - Saturday, September 22, 2007

Citing safety concerns, Hawaii Superferry last
night said it would postpone its planned service to Kaua`i indefinitely.

"A temporary delay serves the community best,"
Superferry officials said in a news release, one day after Gov. Linda Lingle faced a boisterous Kaua`i crowd of more than 1,100 people who were mostly opposed to the ferry.

"Hawaii Superferry has made the decision that in
consideration for the safety of the community, our passengers and our dedicated employees, the resumption of service to Kaua`i will be delayed to an unspecified future date."

On Kaua`i, the decision was greeted with jubilation.

"Fantastic! What a relief! Maybe now we can let
things settle down and let the courts do their job," said Richard Hoeppner, a spokesman for 1000 Friends of Kaua`i, the environmental group that brought a lawsuit seeking to bar Superferry operations until the state completed an environmental assessment.

Hoeppner said the large crowd that greeted Lingle
in the sometimes tense community meeting Thursday night may have convinced Superferry and other officials that they couldn't proceed with a planned sailing to Kaua`i next week without risking a major confrontation.

Hoeppner estimated that more than 100 people were
prepared to risk arrest and physically try to
stop the ferry from arriving in Kaua`i.

VERDICT IS IN - THE PEOPLE CAN WIN ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The people of Kaua`i have achieved a great victory.

Huge numbers of residents turned out to confront occupation officials, including Linda Lingle, at the Kaua`i Memorial Building to say “No” to the Superferry.

The people’s voice and desire for the future of their island has been heard and allowed, however reluctantly.

While those who place profits before people will no doubt make further attempts to force the Superferry on the people of Hawai`i, an important lesson has been learned - the will of the people can win.

But why should it be such a struggle?

Is there a way in which residents desires about how they want the future of Hawai`i to be the rule rather than the exception?

Yes – a Free Hawai`i.

In a Free Hawai`i Hawaiian cultural values will be placed first so decisions made actually benefit residents rather than stockholders of multi-national corporations headquartered many thousands of miles away.

The Superferry fight is not over yet, but the important lesson learned is what’s best for Hawai`i and it’s people can be victorious.

A big mahalo to all who have let us know how much you enjoy our new show with Maurice Majors and his dedication to the preservation of Kaua`i`s past.

Proof once again that people of all types and backgrounds are dedicated to creating a brighter future for everyone right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

OFFICIALS BOOED & HECKLED OVER SUPERFERRY

Honolulu Advertiser
- Friday, September 21, 2007

LIHU`E, Kaua`i — Gov. Linda Lingle tried to calm tensions over the Hawai`i Superferry at a raucous public meeting last night where she was interrupted by boos, hecklers and scattered profanities.

Most of the people in the standing-room-only crowd of more than 1,100 at the Kaua`i War Memorial were opposed to the Superferry and predicted more protests when the ferry returns Wednesday....

"EIS, EIS, EIS," the crowd stood and chanted at the start of the meeting....

Many speakers said the state should wait until courts on Maui and Kaua`i act on legal challenges to the Superferry before authorizing resumed service to Nawiliwili Harbor.

"We call on you, we count on you to choose life and righteousness," said Kaua`i County Councilwoman JoAnn Yukimura.

Lingle drew more boos when she said the decision to allow the Superferry to return to Kaua`i has already been made, and she just wanted to hear residents' concerns about a planned federal security zone at the harbor and other issues....

With Lingle standing behind a podium on stage, speaker after speaker criticized all aspects of the Superferry — from the state's initial policy decision to exempt the Superferry from an environmental assessment to broader accusations that the administration appeared to be favoring corporate interests over the people of the island.

Andrea Brower of Anahola asked the governor if she feels justified in threatening protesters with arrest and prosecution for standing up to the ferry.

Brower's question received a rousing ovation....

State Senate Majority Leader Gary Hooser,
said he hopes the Coast Guard and the state delays resuming service next week.

"It would be very poor judgment on their part to force the issue," he said. "I would encourage them to wait for the Kaua`i and Maui courts to decide one way or the other...."

SUPERFERRY SECURITY ZONE CHALLENGED

Honolulu Advertiser - Thursday, September 20, 2007

By Derrick DePledge

A Big Island attorney yesterday asked for a
temporary restraining order in federal court to block the Coast Guard from setting up a new
federal security zone in Nawiliwili Harbor on Kaua`i when Hawai`i Superferry is expected to return Wednesday.

Lanny Sinkin, the attorney, also is arguing that
the Coast Guard acted improperly in establishing the emergency rule.

Sinkin, who also has filed a petition against the
security zone with the Coast Guard, brought the suit on behalf of 22 people, including some of the protesters who went into the harbor last month to stop the ferry....

"They've used it, basically, to suppress free
speech - suppress First Amendment rights - and make it possible for a business to make a
profit," Sinkin said at a news conference outside the federal court. "I don't think that regulation was intended for either one of those purposes...."

The state Supreme Court has ruled that the state
needs to do an environmental assessment, which has led to court challenges on Maui and Kaua`i seeking to stop ferry service while the review is being done....

BULLETIN! - SPECIAL SUPERFERRY MEETING CALLED ON KAUA`I FOR THIS EVENING

Governor Linda Lingle will be on Kaua`i this evening to speak to citizens of Kaua`i about the Superferry. She will be at the Convention Hall at 6 PM and those who want to attend should go.

Before her meeting, we are proposing a gathering of our own. It will be a Gathering of Aloha to request an EIS FIRST!—with the intention, strength and clarity to protect and preserve our precious Garden Island of Kaua`i.

The Governor, Superferry officials and certain media have been trying to paint those seeking an Environmental Impact Statement on Kaua`i as a small, insignificant minority.

Please join other concerned citizens of Kaua‘i to show how unified and deep our desire is for an EIS FIRST!

Where : Historic County Building, Lihu`e
When : Thursday, September 20, 2007
Time : 4:30-5:30 PM

Our purpose is to gather law-abiding citizens of Kaua`i to express our earnest desire for a pono decision-making process on the Superferry.

• Bring you family, neighbors, friends, co-workers and everyone who desires an EIS FIRST!

• Be proud and humble. We have a constitutional right to assemble and to petition our government.

We request you be on site by 4:30 PM. We expect to conclude our gathering by 5:30 PM. Please allow yourself ample travel and parking time as it will be crowded.

Remember, if you don’t show, they won’t know.

Concerned Citizens of Kaua`i

EVEN CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS ARE AGAINST THE SUPERFERRY

Dear Governor Lingle,

My name is Scott Mijares and I am a resident of Kaua`i. I am a father, a
business owner, a soccer coach, a homeowner and, by all accounts, a conservative Republican...

Yes, I was there at
Nawiliwili Harbor that late afternoon and I plan to be there again on September 26th.

I am not a dissident or a terrorist and do not wish to be
characterized as such.

I am only one of a growing number of good citizens
who are desperate to have our voices heard by leaders like you.

We are
totally resolute in our belief that the Superferry should not be allowed to operate in Hawaiian waters until an EA is completed as prescribed by law....

You are setting the stage for an
inevitable confrontation between citizens and law enforcement to facilitate the safe passage of the Superferry as it enters Nawiliwili Harbor.

In the
best-case scenario, Kaua`i will be seen by the world as a war zone with mothers, aunties, kapunas, and children being herded around by faceless officers in riot gear.

The worst-case scenario will be that one or more
citizens is badly hurt or even killed in the harbor waters. That would be devastating to our community and would certainly lead to extreme levels of civil unrest....

If this issue can get a conservative Republican
contemplating such a huge sacrifice, what do you think is going through the minds of the average Kauaiian?

Please come to Kaua`i and talk to the people. Our concerns are real. The law
seems very clear to us....

On the other hand, if you are using your authority to give law enforcement officers orders to arrest good citizens; citizens who feel like they are being denied their right to gather in their parks and assemble so a commercial enterprise can make some money while the courts decide their fate, then shame on you....

Sincerely,

Scott Mijares

A QUICK TRUE OR FALSE QUIZ REGARDING THE BENEFITS OF THE AKAKA BILL -

1. The Akaka bill contains language that guarantees Hawaiians a land base.

2. The Akaka bill ensures that the Hawaiian Homes program will not be terminated.

3. Hawaiians will vote on whether or not to accept federal recognition. The choice is theirs to make.

4. The commerce clause and treaty clauses of the U.S. constitution do not prohibit federally recognized indigenous people achieving independent nationhood.

5. Federal law provides for the protection of indigenous peoples entitlements and they cannot be taken from them without their consent.

6. The United states has never terminated a government to government relationship with federally recognized people without their consent.

7. Blood quantum restrictions will not result in the exclusion of future generations of Hawaiians from Hawaiian citizenship.

8. Indigenous peoples lives have improved more under federal policy than the lives of people in independent nations in the same time frame.

9. Federal recognition will provide that every Hawaiian will receive land and housing for life.

10. The Akaka bill, would protect Kamehameha Schools.

EACH AND EVERY STATEMENT ABOVE IS FALSE
!

Monday, September 17, 2007

WHO ARE THEY TRYING TO FOOL ?

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs claims if the Akaka Bill isn’t passed, subsequent loss of federal funding could have a dramatic effect upon not only Native Hawaiians, but also Hawaii's economy.

Let's take a look at actual recent federal appropriations to cover all 250,000 people who call themselves Native Hawaiian -

Education: $30.5 million / 250,000 Hawaiians = $122.00 per Hawaiian. How much education can you buy this year with $122.00? If teachers are making say 30,000/year you could hire 1016 teachers.
That means there would only have to be 246 Hawaiians per classroom.

Affordable housing: $9.6 million/250,000 Hawaiians = $38.40 per Hawaiian.
How much of your yearly rental costs does $38.40 cover?

Health care: $7 million /250,000 Hawaiians = $28.00 per Hawaiian.
How much dental and medical insurance can you buy with $28.00? Maybe get only half your teeth cleaned this year and hope you don’t get sick?

Strengthening community colleges (academics): $3.25 million /250,000Hawaiians = $13.00 per Hawaiian.
How many units of academic instruction does $13.00 cover at a community college these days?

Vocational education: $2.9 million/250,000 Hawaiians = $11.60 per Hawaiian.
What can you learn how to do for $11.60?

Community development: $2 million/250,000 Hawaiians = $8.00 per Hawaiian.
How much Community infrastructure does $8.00 buy?

Strengthening community colleges (agriculture): $1.5 million /250,000 Hawaiians = $6.00 per Hawaiian.
What does $6.00 buy in the way of agricultural education at community college these days?

Housing loan guarantees: $1 million /250,000 Hawaiians = $4.00 per Hawaiian.
How much of your annual mortgage does $4.00 cover?

Culture and arts: $740,000/250,000 Hawaiians = $2.96 per Hawaiian.
For $2.96, about all the culture you can afford is a plastic lei.

Looks Like About $233.96 Per Hawaiian Total - Less Administrative Costs Of Course.

LESSONS FROM THE PAST ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Our focus this week again is on the island of Kaua`i – past and the present.

The Superferry issue won’t go away and neither will the protestors. A showdown is looming.

The only question remaining is will the people of that island be able to have a say in their future or will another multi-million dollar foreign corporation once again impose its iron will with the help of the US occupying force – simply for profit?

We have a brand new Voices Of Truth show this week featuring Maurice “Mo” Majors.

Maurice isn’t just another archaeologist, but someone who makes the past spring up before your eyes.

He’s worked for years in Nu`alolo Kai valley, as beautiful as it is remote, striving to restore the ancient settlement of a thousand years ago.

So we packed up our gear and followed Mo into Nu`alolo Kai and found a place that took our breath away.

It got us thinking about what lessons the past has for us with respect to the present.

How would the Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiian) of old deal with an intruder like the Superferry?

And as important, would those from outside Kaua`i, the island that was never conquered nor surrendered, dare try?

We invite you to come along with us this week as we travel into Nu`alolo Kai valley and discover far more than we bargained for on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

Always independent and impetuous, Joanne has pushed the envelope in every phase of her life distinguishing herself in challenging physical activities, including surfing and swimming.

She joined the Hokule`a project during the design phase and later became one of the first wahine to crew in the early voyages.

Currently she focuses her energy and talent in Lei Hulu, the traditional feather arts, adapting them into contemporary expressions of her own creativity.

Don’t miss our visit with this remarkable wahine Kanaka Hawai`i Maoli. Recently recognized by her peers and the Bishop Museum as a Living Treasure, Joanne inspires us to see what we can all become if we just follow our passion and vision.

DID YOU KNOW THE EFFECTS OF OVER A CENTURY OF U.S. OCCUPATION ON NATIVE HAWAIIANS ?

The Hawaiian people have suffered since the first Western contact in 1778.

Western diseases, to which Hawaiians had no immunity, decimated their numbers.

At the time of western contact, some 800,000 people inhabited the Hawaiian Islands.

By 1805 that number had been halved.

By 1853 there were only 71,000 Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian people in the islands.

Within 100 years of western contact, the Hawaiian population had been reduced by nearly 90 percent.

According to the 2000 census, the numbers of people who claim some native Hawaiian ancestry have increased to over 400,000.

But only 239,000 live in Hawai`i and they are the poorest, most locked-up population in the state.

Although they only make up about 20 percent of the state's population, in June 2001 they made up 39 percent of the state's prison population, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

And they make up 37 percent of the state's homeless population, according to a 2003 survey.

WHO REALLY OWNS LAND TODAY IN HAWAI`I ?

Land Titles Issued Today Are Very Much In Doubt -

"Clear Title," regarding legitimate legal ownership of land in Hawai`i is a topic quickly becoming an issue in the political and commercial areas.

With more lands being "quiet titled" in the courts with the aid of foreign laws (USA and state of Hawai`i) illegally imposed against the rightful and legal owners of these lands with a judicial system aiding and abetting in these crimes, it's no wonder developers are eager to build hundreds of new luxury homes on La`au Point on Molokai and elsewhere.

To this day, land titles in Hawai`i continue to carry the original "royal patent" from the Mahele of 1848.

If The US Government or state of Hawai`i and their citizens rightfully have "clear title" to these lands, then why has the US patent not replaced the royal patents as was done in 49 other states?

Answer - Each royal patent has been "adjudicated," making them all a legal decree. When purchasing land, a "warranty deed" is issued instead, not clear title per se.

It's no different than if someone steals your car and attempts to sell it to someone else - they can't convey the "pink slip" to the new owner because they never had it in the first place - they're simply selling stolen property.

That's Why There Is No Clear Title To Land In Hawai`i.

WHY IS INDEPENDENCE BETTER FOR HAWAI`I THAN FEDERAL RECOGNITION?

Federal recognition (Akaka bill) is yesterday's solution.

It's thesis is again going hat in hand to the US federal government for help and turning Hawaiians inward and against each other in their own land.

For more than 100 years, this has not worked.

Instead, we can seize the opportunity to create a dynamic new nation through which we can maintain our culture and values, have more control over our future and be a leader among the pacific nations.

Let this be our legacy to our future generations.

OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS VIOLATES NATIVE HAWAIIAN RIGHTS

We are appalled by the continued rhetoric of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the phony paranoia that "the sky is falling."

In 1959, the United States created a policy of "wards of the State" that was imposed on "native Hawaiians" 50 percent blood or more, as amended in the Admissions Act.

Under this policy, a small portion of traditional archipelagic territories were identified for those who are 50 percent blood or more.

These lands were given to the State of Hawai`i in trust, but never inventoried or mapped to this very day.

Since statehood, the United States has maintained a policy of non-recognition of native Hawaiians and has consistently dealt with the State of Hawai`i, despite an extensive track record of violating and mismanagement of native trust....

For over 87 years the United States has failed to protect the civil rights of native Hawaiians, even though the United States accepted a sacred trust obligation and its role as a trustee of native Hawaiian trusts....

The federal government, in collusion with the state of Hawai`i and the phony State agency, OHA, has violated the human and civil rights of native Hawaiians and participated in denying them their collective rights to self-determination and self-governance for the past 87 years....

With the Akaka scam, they no longer feel it necessary to sneak through the back door.

SHOULDN'T HAWAIIANS BE GLAD THEY'RE A PART OF THE U.S. ?

Here's How Hawaiian Nationals Feel About The Overthrow Of Their Country

Let's pretend I visit your house.

You offer me food and rest. I decide to stay.

Then, I order you and your family around, use your things and rearrange the rooms.

I take down your photos and religious symbols, replace them with my own and make you speak my language.

One day, I dig up your garden and replace it with crops that I can sell.

You and your family must now buy all of your food from me.

Later, I invite my father and his buddies over.

They bring guns. We take your keys.

I forge a deed and declare my father to be the owner of your house.

I bring more people. Some work for me. Some pay me to stay in your house.

I seize your savings and spend it on my friends.

You and your family now sleep on the porch.

Finally you protest.

Being reasonable, I let you stay in a corner of the house and give you a small allowance, but only if you behave.

I tell you, "Sorry, I was wrong for taking the house."

But when you demand your house back, I tell you to be realistic."You are part of this family now, whether you like it or not," I say. "Besides, this is for your own good.

For all that I have done for you, why aren't you grateful?"

TAKING BACK OUR FUTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The Superferry’s recent attempt to invade Kaua`i has brought people together like few other issues.

Native Hawaiians, activists, environmentalists and other Kaua`i residents who care deeply about the `aina (land) have banded together to protest the intrusion of this uninvited guest.

If you haven’t already seen the video of what happened when the Superferry attempted to dock in Nawiliwili harbor this last week, visit myspace.com/FreeHawaii

Surfers, boogie boarders and canoes full of people were in the water. Crowds of residents were waiting on the shore and they all had a message – no Superferry on Kaua`i.

Local police arrived in riot gear, arresting and threatening to use mace.

Since then things have changed, and not for the better.

The harbor is now like a fortress.

Authorities are now threatening federal charges against anyone who attempts to block the ship again. New gates and fences have been erected around the pier.

Sources say the FBI has arrived with portable cage jail cells and water cannons so they can blow protesters out of the water.

None of this would even occur in a Free Hawai`i where people decide their own future and not multi-national corporations thousands of miles away.

Sound too good to be true? Check out our visits with Doug Chang and Clifford Nae`ole this week and meet two individuals who put people before profit and not the other way around.

Like those brave Kaua`i residents, they too are active participants in creating a better Hawai`i. And you can see them right here on Voices Of Truth - One-On-One With Hawai`i's Future.

"Hands In The Water - A Visit With Doug Kahikina Chang”

In the world of hospitality, blunt speech is seldom heard.

But then along came Doug Kahikina Chang and everything changed.

A student of hula, language and the Hawaiian culture from an early age, Doug is a true trailblazer in one of the places it counts the most – Hawai`i’s tour industry.

The first Native Hawaiian ever to be selected as chairperson of the Hawai`i Tourism Authority, Doug tells it like it is - native culture has been “used and abused for its entertainment value.”

In his younger days, he tells us he was ashamed to talk about his hotel job when he was back home.

Other Hawaiians would accuse him of selling out for the visitor at the expense of Hawai`i’s culture and land.

But no more.

Today Doug is at the helm of a huge paradigm shift at long last finally making native Hawaiians and the real Hawai`i the only, real and primary experience visitors have when they visit.

Be sure and catch our visit with this humble yet extraordinarily talented and brave Hawaiian who literally rose through the ranks from a humble beginning as a hotel dishwasher and airport lei greeter to become the internationally recognized leader of Hawai`i tourism. At long last, when Doug speaks, the powerful now listen.

“Culture, Arts & Hospitality – A Visit With Clifford Nae`ole”

It happens once a month on Friday evenings around a full moon at the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua.

Clifford Nae`ole can be heard talking story as part of a program called Moonlight Mo`olelo.

His tourist audience listens as he tells stories about Hawai`i of old and the indigenous people of Honokahua, the ancient, culturally significant site of pre-contact Hawai`i where the Ritz Carlton sits.

Clifford was the individual from the local community who always stepped forward and spoke up to make sure protocol was being followed as the hotel was being developed.

He was so effective, Ritz Carlton management ended up hiring him as cultural advisor and then Chairperson for the annual Maui Cultural Arts Festival.

"Education leads to awareness, which in turn inspires accountability, which will ultimately ensure the survival of our people, land, ocean and culture," asserts Clifford. "Many of us have forgotten to 'think island.'"

"The tourist industry needs to realize that they are the guest in the home of the host, not the other way around."

Powerful words of wisdom indeed.

Catch our must-see interview with this visionary whose actions have led to fundamental changes in an industry that’s responsible for making visitor first impressions. Clifford reminds us why it comes full circle - "We live on a finite source. Once we have abused and used whatever sustains us on this land, we are certainly doomed.”

WHAT DO HAWAIIAN NATIONALS
WANT ?

Here Is What They Say About Themselves, Their Countrymen And The United States -

"The most common sense thing is for total independence.

We were a progressive modern nation of our time and recognized as a friendly, neutral nation within the Family of Nations, the predecessor of the League of Nations and the United Nations.

We had a democratic form of government, a constitutional monarchy with a bicameral legislative assembly.

The works and legacies of our monarchs are legendary and noteworthy.

Today under the American system, we are concerned about our lands, culture, people and lifestyle which has been under attack for over a hundred years.

This gets us angry as more Hawaiians desire total independence as a result.

The Kingdom of Hawai`i is not only Native Hawaiians but subjects of non-Hawaiian blood who were legitimate subjects of the Kingdom.

This racial argument is an American thing and not a Hawaiian thing.

So our concerns are well within our scope to protect all our subjects of the Kingdom.

We do expect reparations and restitution from the US for the injurious damages to our nation, land and people.

The US government is well aware of this and is attempting a piecemeal settlement.

If the tables were turned around; which would you do? I'm sure it wouldn't be a hard decision.

Remember, Hawaiians never hated Americans; but only those that did harm to us and the US government for its complicity and deceit.

We were never afraid that another country would take us over; we had over twenty-four treaties with various countries but the US is the only country that broke their treaties with us."

That should tell you something.

EVERYBODY'S FOR THE AKAKA BILL? - GUESS AGAIN!

Akaka Bill Testimony Mixed

Honolulu Advertiser - September 6, 2007

An advisory committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights heard conflicting testimony yesterday at a meeting in Honolulu to gather information about a proposed Native Hawaiian federal recognition bill.

A handful of invited speakers disagreed on whether the long-stalled Akaka bill would help or hurt the cause of Hawaiians....

...others said the bill would either damage efforts to create an independent Hawaiian nation or discriminate against others based on race, observers said.

The Civil Rights Commission's staff in Washington, D.C., directed the advisory committee to hold the briefings because it wanted local input on the bill.

In the past, the committee has supported the bill, but it recently received several new members, including some who are outspoken opponents of the Akaka bill....

There was no opportunity for members of the public to testify at yesterday's briefing, but several public hearings are scheduled across the state next week.

The hearing schedule -

Honolulu - Wednesday, 1 to 5 PM Legislature Building

Hilo - next Thursday, 12:30 to 4:30 PM State Office Building, 75 Aupuni St.

Lihu`e - Sept. 14, 1 to 5 PM Kaua`i Community College Performing Arts Center, 3-1901 Kaumuali`i Highway

THE TRUTH IS OUT - 98% OF ALL HAWAIIANS DID NOT WANT THE U.S. TO ANNEX HAWAI`I

Did You Know ? -

In 1897 and 1898, 98% of all Native Hawaiians, as well as non-natives throughout all the islands, signed a petition to U.S. Congress asking that the U.S. not annex Hawai`i.

This petition was rediscovered in the U.S. Archives only within the past 10 years, and today's Hawaiians are proud to find the signatures of their ancestors on this document.

Here's where to see it -

WHAT ONE NATIVE HAWAIIAN SAYS ABOUT THE AKAKA BILL

"...The Akaka Bill is a racist measure. The issue is not about race.

The real issue is about Hawaiian Kingdom nationalism regardless of race, the unlawful United States occupation of an internationally recognized sovereign nation, and the coverup of long-running United States violations of domestic and international laws.

There are so many negative things about the Akaka Bill that it would confuse most anyone but please take a moment to think about this -

The Akaka Bill is an internal united states instrument of deception designed to erase historical crimes by the United States against the Hawaiian Kingdom, including those crimes admittted to by the United States under united states public law 103-150.

Ask yourself, what sovereign nation would allow another nation to amend their constitution?

The Akaka Bill allows the United States interior department to amend the re-organized Hawaiian government's constitution.

Perhaps the United States would prefer that Hawai`i become a nuclear waste dumping site, a nuclear weapons testing site, or worse.

The Akaka Bill is a self-serving effort by the United States government that ultimately provides for United States dictatorship over Hawai`i.

There are a few sell-outs out there, don't be counted as one of them."

HONORING HAWAI`I'S QUEEN ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Today is the birthday of Lydia Kamaka`eha, Queen Lili`uokalani.

Hawai`i’s Queen will be honored all day long on `Iolani Palace grounds in Honolulu, the only legitimate seat of the Hawaiian Nation.

One of the most significant events will be a re-enactment of the play Ka Lei Maile Ali`i - The Queen's Women.

This critically acclaimed play documents Hawai`i's last monarch and her loyal kingdom subjects as they attempt to stave off illegal annexation by the US in 1898.

Preceding the play a presentation by David Keanu Sai will provide a context for understanding why signatures were being gathered by Hui Aloha `Aina O Na Wahine and Hui Aloha `Aina O Na Kane for the Ku`e Petitions of 1897.

Ka Lei Maile Ali`i - The Queen's Women brings vividly to life the people’s love for their monarch and Kingdom, and their strong determination to remain a free, independent country.

Queen Lili`uokalani spent the rest of her life fighting and protesting the illegal occupation of Hawai`i which continues to this day.

Actions by present day Hawai`i Nationalists are a continuation of the Queen’s life’s work – a free and independent Hawai`i.

Her remarkable vision and mission continues unabated, as evidenced by the activists of today including the individuals featured in our shows this week.

They, like those that went before them, are committed to a Hawai`i that thrives, rather than one which survives an illegal occupation.

Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future honors and remembers our Queen, who’s remarkable aloha for her nation and people is alive today through the people who love their land.

MONDAY, September 3rd At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, September 7th At 5:30 PM

"Coming Full Circle – A Visit With Sam Ka`ai”

A Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiian) practitioner extraordinaire, Sam Ka`ai is a Pacific voyager and cultural ambassador, who’s devotion to keeping alive the ancient ways of old Hawai`i is truly beyond compare.

From the perpetuation of lua, the ancient Hawaiian fighting art, to ceremonial protocol, Sam is also a creator of world-class stone and wood weaponry, as well as amazing adornments of shell and natural fibers.

Above all, Sam Ka`ai is a master orator, sharing timeless Polynesian legends, myth and mana`o (insights) through vivid imagery and dramatic, spellbinding story telling.

Sam is one of those rare individuals who, when in his presence, time seems to stand still and the ancestors come forth and speak.

It’s then you realize his knowledge is of the ages.

If you’ve not witnessed Sam in person, don’t miss this one-of-a-kind interview as he shares with us stories of his early childhood on Maui, the changing social dynamics that molded him into the amazing person he is today and most of all why the ways of old Hawai`i are the very keys for the future for all of us today.
