WHY DO NATIVE HAWAIIANS WANT THEIR NATION & LAND BACK?
- Because today Native Hawaiians are at a criical juncture to survive as a people.
- Because for foreign business interests it's a matter of profit and loss. For Native Hawaiians it's a matter of life and death.
- Because we seek to protect our natural resources.
- Because while Native Hawaiian families are struggling to survive, their water is being shipped to the other side of the island so that housing and resorts can be built by rich foreigners.
- Because it is our national inheritance - never given away by either native treaty or by native vote.

HOW DID HAWAIIANS BECOME OUTCASTS IN THEIR OWN LAND ?
Here's What The History Books Won't Tell You -
Western diseases, to which Hawaiians had no immunity, decimated their numbers. At the time of western contact, some 800,000 people inhabited the Hawaiian Islands.
By 1805 that number had been halved.
By 1853 there were only 71,000 Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian people in the islands.
Within 100 years of western contact, the Hawaiian population had been reduced by nearly 90 percent.
According to the 2000 census, the numbers of people who claim some native Hawaiian ancestry have increased to over 400,000. But only 239,000 live in Hawai`i and they are the poorest, most locked-up population in the state.
Although they only make up about 20 percent of the state's population, in June 2001 they made up 39 percent of the state's prison population, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Sadly, they make up 37 percent of the state's homeless population.

HAWAIIAN NATIONAL SPEAKS OUT AGAINST AKAKA BILL
Testimony Submitted To US Civil Rights Commission
"We are Hawai`i nationals; the third party in this equation that will not go away; the ones you refuse to acknowledge and speak with; nor want to discuss the reality of a true resolution....
As U.S. American settlers in Hawai`i, you continue violating the laws of occupation and our neutrality while subjecting us to the US WASP society propaganda, conditioning, forced-assimilation, brainwashing, and dancing around with the play on semantics in a scurrilous manner.
We object to the motives of the Akaka Bill and seek redress in following the laws of occupation and neutrality afforded to us through our inherent national civil and human rights dictated by our Hawai`i Kingdom's constitution, treaties and the U.S. constitution as the supreme law of the land.
Our case needs to be addressed with the U.S. State Department and not within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Interior to realize justice.
Only then will the U.S. government be vindicated for making a mockery of justice, honor, freedom, and democracy."

ALOHA MAI KAKOU!
WELCOME IF YOU'RE VISITING FREEHAWAII.INFO FOR THE FIRST TIME!
Free Hawai`i means returning the Hawaiian Islands back to an independent nation status, as it was before it was illegally overthrown by US marines and rich sugar barons in 1893.
In 1993, President Clinton formally apologized for that act and publicly acknowledged the illegality of the overthrow.
DID YOU KNOW -
98% of all Hawaiians living at the time opposed the illegal overthrow!
Today, less than 20% of all land in Hawai`i is in Hawaiian hands.
Over 60% today is in non-Hawaiian hands!
A few individuals, who are non-Hawaiian, lease an amount of land in Hawai`i that is greater than all land leased to all Native Hawaiians!
Currently, only 72 landowners control 95% of all land in Hawai`i.
Native Hawaiians make up the largest percentage of homeless in Hawai`i today.
Native Hawaiians have the worst social, educational and economic indicators compared to any ethnic group in the US.
Native Hawaiians currently have the worst health profile compared to any ethnic group in the US.
Descendants of the Hawaiian Nation want their country and land back so they can grow their own foods, become healthy once again, and control their own destiny.
Hawai`i Was A Free Nation - But Never Free For The Taking!

CELEBRATING THE ALOHA MARCHES & STANDING UP FOR PONO ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
We wrap up our coverage of the Aloha Marches of 1998 and 2000 this week with what occurred after the Marches – pa`ina.
The evening of the Aloha March 2000, everyone packed the ballroom of the Washington, DC hotel that was base for March organizers.
A giant party, or pa`ina was put on with tons of food, fun and local style entertainment.
But it was Koani Founder John Butch Kekahu III who stole the show when someone handed him an ukulele.
Join in on the fun and see for yourself this coming Wednesday on FreeHawaiiTV.
People standing up for what’s pono, or correct is our theme this week on Voices Of Truth – One-One-One With Hawai`i’s Future.
And it appears it comes not a moment too soon, from feedback we’ve been getting.
Not only have you told us how inspired you are, but actually strengthened in light of one of the most egregious violations that has occurred in Hawai`i in awhile – the Superferry.
The Superferry is like the perfect storm because it‘s a violation on so many levels – Hawai`i’s culture, people and environment.
It’s a microcosm of everything that’s wrong with the illegal US occupation of Hawai`i.
Profits before people and ignoring the costs - a complete lack of concern and awareness of the impact on the `aina (land,) it’s people and culture seems to be the American way.
We feature three individuals this week, Clifford Nae`ole, Joanne Kahanamoku Sterling and Doug Kahikina Chang who each decided to stand up and make sure those are no longer casualties.
Our hope is you’re inspired to do the same. Check them out this week on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.
MONDAY, August 27th At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, August 31st At 5:30 PM – Hawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53
TUESDAY, August 28th At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, August 29th At 6:30 AM – Maui – Akaku, Channel 53
“Culture, Arts & Hospitality – A Visit With Clifford Nae`ole”
It happens once a month on Friday evenings around a full moon at the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua.
Clifford Nae`ole can be heard talking story as part of a program called Moonlight Mo`olelo.
His tourist audience listens as he tells stories about Hawai`i of old and the indigenous people of Honokahua, the ancient, culturally significant site of pre-contact Hawai`i where the Ritz Carlton sits.
Clifford was the individual from the local community who always stepped forward and spoke up to make sure protocol was being followed as the hotel was being developed.
He was so effective, Ritz Carlton management ended up hiring him as cultural advisor and then Chairperson for the annual Maui Cultural Arts Festival.
"Education leads to awareness, which in turn inspires accountability, which will ultimately ensure the survival of our people, land, ocean and culture," asserts Clifford. "Many of us have forgotten to 'think island.'"
"The tourist industry needs to realize that they are the guest in the home of the host, not the other way around."
Powerful words of wisdom indeed.
Catch our must-see interview with this visionary whose actions have led to fundamental changes in an industry that’s responsible for making visitor first impressions. Clifford reminds us why it comes full circle - "We live on a finite source. Once we have abused and used whatever sustains us on this land, we are certainly doomed.”
THURSDAY, August 30th at 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, August 31st At 8:30 AM – Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52
“Artistic Voyage – A Visit With Joanne Kahanamoku Sterling”
Joanne Kahanamoku has been an integral part of the Hawaiian Renaissance from the start.
Born and raised during her childhood years in Tahiti, she traveled to join her renowned Kanaka Maoli `ohana (native Hawaiian family) in Hawai`i as a young person.
Always independent and impetuous, Joanne has pushed the envelope in every phase of her life distinguishing herself in challenging physical activities, including surfing and swimming.
She joined the Hokule`a project during the design phase and later became one of the first wahine to crew in the early voyages.
Currently she focuses her energy and talent in Lei Hulu, the traditional feather arts, adapting them into contemporary expressions of her own creativity.
Don’t miss our visit with this remarkable wahine Kanaka Hawai`i Maoli. Recently recognized by her peers and the Bishop Museum as a Living Treasure, Joanne inspires us to see what we can all become if we just follow our passion and vision.
SATURDAY, September 1st At 8:00 PM – O`ahu - ‘Olelo, Channel 53
“Hands In The Water - A Visit With Doug Kahikina Chang”
In the world of hospitality, blunt speech is seldom heard.
But then along came Doug Kahikina Chang and everything changed.
A student of hula, language and the Hawaiian culture from an early age, Doug is a true trailblazer in one of the places it counts the most – Hawai`i’s tour industry.
The first Native Hawaiian ever to be selected as chairperson of the Hawai`i Tourism Authority, Doug tells it like it is - native culture has been “used and abused for its entertainment value.”
In his younger days, he tells us he was ashamed to talk about his hotel job when he was back home.
Other Hawaiians would accuse him of selling out for the visitor at the expense of Hawai`i’s culture and land.
But no more.
Today Doug is at the helm of a huge paradigm shift at long last finally making native Hawaiians and the real Hawai`i the only, real and primary experience visitors have when they visit.
Be sure and catch our visit with this humble yet extraordinarily talented and brave Hawaiian who literally rose through the ranks from a humble beginning as a hotel dishwasher and airport lei greeter to become the internationally recognized leader of Hawai`i tourism. At long last, when Doug speaks, the powerful now listen.
Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.

HAWAIIAN PATRIOT SAYS YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS
Akaka Bill Compromises Hawai`i & US Constitution
"...When one considers the principles of the U.S. Constitution which is the foundation constructed by the founding fathers of the United States of America, the Akaka Bill is unconstitutional as stated correctly by the Civil Rights Commission members.
How can anyone claim to be an American, especially the so-called "Native Hawaiians" supporting the Akaka Bill and pontificate in the same breath their support and defending of the U.S. Constitution?
Simply put, you support the Akaka Bill, you compromise the very principles that defines your national identity.
The issue regarding the Akaka Bill is one of 'nationality,' not ethnicity.
Many who understand this were present at the meeting and were in effect denied the opportunity to explain this to the committee and the public.
The committe needs to hear from those lineal descendants of the Hawaiian Kingdom (1842-1893) and not the po`e haole (foreigners who stole our identity and Nation.)
If not, you are no better than those newly appointed members who oppose the bill for racist reasons instead of the rights of ALL PEOPLE in a civil society."

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE AKAKA BILL?
Here's What One Hawai`i National Says -
- "The wording and intention of the Bill.
- We're cognizant of the US historical scurrilous behavior against the native Americans - and to recognize or reverse recognition of them.
- The disparity in the definition of 'nation.'
- Congress plenary authority over the indigenous/aboriginal people.
So, why give up the whole pie just to receive the crumbs and be under subjugation of a foreign entity?
The content of the Akaka Bill is obfuscating, repugnant and seditious; and I, as a Hawai`i National, will never accept it as it is written and implied."

A HAWAI`I NATIONAL PATRIOT'S TESTIMONY TO THE U.S. COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS
"...While the US Americans bicker on the pros and cons of the Akaka Bill, within the context of the US domestic/internal box, they need to hear from the Hawai`i Nationals who are defending their nation....
So, to understand our position, the issue of secession is ludicrous when there was no legal and lawful cession....
The fact that there are international violations and irregularities with the Statehood voting process, make Hawai`i's statehood null and void....
The fact is the Hawaiian Kingdom still exists with its external sovereignty already recognized; albeit under the US Belligerent Occupation, which still disregards Hawai`i's neutrality status.
The US continues to violate the laws of occupation, the laws of neutrality, and ignores the voice of its people.
The Akaka Bill is a US domestic instrument and OHA is a US internal agency which does not have the right to usurp the Hawaiian Kingdom's jurisdiction nor its government which is in a long extended recess..."

HAWAIIANS SAY "NO" TO AKAKA BILL & "YES" TO KANAKA BILL

Signs question ownership of Hawaiian lands.
Leaders don't support the Akaka bill, but rather passage of their own Kanaka bill.
"If a nation was once recognized and it was unlawfully removed, it has the right to re-instate itself," says Reinstated Hawaiian Nation Prime Minister Henry Noa.
"It's going on 114 years that we have been denied any type of reconciliation, any opportunity for justice..." says Noa.

ALOHA MARCH COVERAGE & TALES OF OLD HAWAI`I ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
Mahalo to all who contacted us this last week regarding our look back at the Aloha Marches of 1998 and 2000 this month on Free Hawai`i TV.
Some of you wrote to say you and your `ohana (family) were there. Others wrote to say they wish they had been.
We continue our look back at the Marches this week featuring what happened afterwards.
Starting at the US Capitol, marchers went down Pennsylvania Avenue under police escort, ending at the park known as the Ellipse directly behind the White House.
There the marchers reassembled and listened as participants shared their mana`o (thoughts.)
Hawaiians from throughout Hawai`i, representing each island, as well as those who live across Moku Honu (US continent) spoke from the heart about how participating in the March had changed their lives.
Representatives of Guam, Puerto Rico, Aotearoa, (New Zealand) First Peoples whose native land we were on, as well as many regional and national religious and political organizations who marched with us issued statements of solidarity regarding a Free Hawai`i.
Many memorable and moving words were spoken, including those by Koani Founder and Aloha March organizer John Butch Kekahu III.
You can see the Aloha March as it arrives at the Ellipse and what occurred afterwards for yourself this Wednesday on Free Hawai`i TV.
We feature our new Voices Of Truth segment with Clifford Nae`ole again this week for all those who asked so they may see it once more and share it with their `ohana.
Must see viewing – the Aloha Marches on Free Hawai`i TV and people making a difference on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

US TRIES TO TERMINATE CHEROKEE NATION - WITHOUT THEIR SAY!
Here's What's In Store For Hawaiians If Akaka Bill Passes
A bill has been introduced into the US Congress to terminate its relationship with the Cherokee Nation.
H.R. 2824, introduced June 21, 2007 by Congresswoman Diane Watson, would "sever the United States' government relations with the Cherokee Nation."
The tribe's recent constitutional amendment to limit citizenship to those who descend from Indians listed on the U.S. census of 1906 known as the Dawes Roll was deemed unacceptable by the Feds.
Terminating the treaty would mean ending financial support from Washington, leaving the Cherokee a land-locked people with little to no support, having negotiated their rights aways years ago in exchange for US federal recognition.
Proof Once Again The US Government Controls Federally Recognized Entities - Not The Other Way Around!

WHO WINS IN A FREE AND INDEPENDENT HAWAI`I ? - EVERYONE !
One of the biggest lies perpetuated today is that when Hawai`i achieves nationhood once again it will be at the expense of everyone else.
But no one will be kicked out; their businesses seized or their homes and property confiscated.
Instead, everyone, Hawaiians and all others, will be citizens of the sovereign and independent Nation of Hawai`i. The Hawaiian Nation included people of many ethnic backgrounds that were loyal citizens before the illegal overthrow and it will be so again.
The truth is a sovereign Hawaiian nation will need the contributions and talents of all of its citizens to remain viable in the world.
Hawaiians would be no better than the very supremacists that overthrew and occupied them were they to divide people by race.
Hawaiians have always been inclusive, not exclusive.
How would this be accomplished politically given a civil war resulted the last time a state tried to leave the US?
Unlike the southern US states, the Kingdom of Hawai`i and its citizens never agreed to become part of the United States in the first place.
Therefore a move for Hawai`i to secede from the US would be both unnecessary and inappropriate.
Much like removing the top coat of paint to reveal the one underneath, the US Congress, after consultation between Hawaiians and the US at the level of state to state, could simply enact a US federal law that dissolves the entity known as the “state government” in Hawai`i.
What would be left in its place is what has existed all along anyway without interruption – the Nation of Hawai`i. Only at that point, would it be appropriate for the citizens of Hawai`i to decide their future as it relates to a relationship with the United States.
Those possibilities would include –
Full Independence - Joining once again the family of nations in the world.
Free Association – Much like Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.
Integration with the US – Becoming a state again or a tribe of the US under federal recognition.
Did you know that when Ronald Reagan was president, one of the most conservative US presidents in recent times, his administration actually granted the Marshall Islands independence in 1986, which then lead to a free association relationship with the US?
Precedent for Hawaiian independence exists right now within US law as outlined above. There are no laws that exist today within the US to prevent the US federal government from dissolving a state government. It is only fear and ignorance that holds the status quo in place.

OVERCOMING THE ILLEGAL US ANNEXATION ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
Today marks the 109th anniversary of the US imposed illegal annexation of Hawai`i.
How has this played out for native Hawaiians?
They constitute roughly 23 per cent of the population, yet represent 54 per cent of the prison population.
They have the lowest per capita income, highest poverty rate and shortest lifespan of any ethnic group in Hawai`i.
Despite record profits for many businesses, jobs are scarce and most of the available work pays minimum wage or close to it.
On every island married couples with children often work two jobs each to make ends meet - if they are fortunate enough to find that many jobs, even at minimum wage.
Hawai`i imports two-thirds of its food from the US mainland. Locally grown food is expensive due to high land prices.
Is it any wonder more and & more people want the illegal annexation and occupation to end?
In 1998 and again in 2000, one man, John Butch Kekahu III was fed up and took the message to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
We continue our coverage this week of a look back at the Aloha Marches of 1998 and 2000 on FreeHawaiiTV.
See for yourself the sights and sounds of the Aloha March 2000 this coming Wednesday on FreeHawaiiTV.
In a brand new Voices Of Truth show this week, we feature Clifford Nae`ole, Chair of the annual Maui cultural Arts Festival at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua.
Clifford’s another prime example of someone in the community who stepped forward to stop the selling out of Maui’s people, `aina (land) and history.
“People come here to discover Hawai`i, and seeing big-box retailers makes visitors want to head to their resort all the more quickly,” remarks Clifford.
Be sure and see how one individual can make such a huge difference in how visitors experience Hawai`i and its people this week right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

CAN YOU IMAGINE? -
Everyone seeking independence, everyone setting themselves free from slavery from this corrupted system that runs our lives here in Hawai`i?
There would be no state or county.
That means there would be an independent state or nation again.
We the people would be able to control our own destiny!
Land wouldn't be sold to bigwigs. House prices would come down so our people would actually be able to live here.
How can we sell ourselves out again by accepting federal recognition and go along with that nation-within-a-nation thing?
This would be no good for us or our children.
There is a way to freedom... it's called Free Hawai`i.

Accordingly, it is doubtful that the aquisition of Hawai`i can serve as an appropriate precedent for a congressional assertion of sovereignty..."

U.S. WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE ABORIGINAL RIGHTS ARE BETTER THAN KINGDOM RIGHTS
January 2006 Testimony Presented To The U.S. Civil Rights Commission By Robert K. Fukuda -
I was Deputy Attorney General of the Territory of Hawai`i from 1953 to 1959.
During that time, I was the attorney for the Hawaiian Homes Commission, an agency that managed and supervised the use of lands allocated to native Hawaiians for residential and agricultural uses....
This Akaka bill proposes to create a government whose citizens would be restricted to persons whose ancestry includes any amount, however small, of blood quantum of natives who lived in the Hawaiian Islands before the discovery of the Islands by English explorer Captain James Cook in 1778.
This is beyond any serious debate an attempt to create a race-based nation and government....
Throughout the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom, there was never any constitutional or Legislative restriction of Hawaiian citizenship to persons of Hawaiian descent....
If it is the purpose of the Congress to make amends for the annexation of Hawai`i, then the appropriate action would be to kill this bill and enact a reparations bill with programs and benefits for descendants of all the people who were living in Hawai`i at the time of annexation....

HAWAIIAN CITIZENS REJECTED ILLEGAL US OCCUPATION
Over 96% of Hawaiian Citizens rejected the US intended annexation back in 1897 and insisted that they reinstate their Queen and for the USA to back off.
They never wanted to become part of the USA, rather they wanted their monarch reinstated and their country back.
As for Statehood, it is null and void just by the amount of irregularities and non-conforming to international laws and the laws of the US constitution and its treaties.
To this day it is repugnant to Hawaiian Kingdom Laws and treaties.
Only US citizens were allowed to vote for statehood or those declared by the US to be citizens, along with the US military.
The USA went through the motions of legitimizing what could not be lawful or legal.
Today, with its phony Kau Inoa registration, the Office Of Hawaiian Affairs admits it is not establishing a nation at all but simply a tribal governing entity.
They are trying to fool native Hawaiians into thinking a nation will be created for them.
Instead they are trying to usurp the legitimate Hawaiian Kingdom's authority and jurisdiction to negotiate away forever the Hawaiian rights of the Polynesian Hawaiians and ignore the other multi-ethnic Hawaiian Kingdom citizens.

FREE HAWAI`I FROM THE HALLS OF THE US CONGRESS ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
Mahalo to everyone who commented this last week on our Aloha March 2000 video on FreeHawaiiTV.
Those of you who were actually at the march and sent your reminisces know what a powerful event it was.
All this month we take a look back at the Aloha Marches of 1998 and 2000 on FreeHawaiiTV by featuring videos and some never before seen footage of those events as well as the person who’s vision they were – Koani Founder John Butch Kekahu III.
Butch had virtually no formal education, yet was invited to speak about Hawaiian self-determination all across the US including at such prestigious institutions as MIT, and interviewed on television and radio including the BBC, National Public Radio, Democracy Now, CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS and NBC.
This coming Wednesday, we feature one of the high points of the 1998 Aloha March on FreeHawaiiTV – Butch’s speech in Statuary Hall in the US Congress.
It was entirely fitting that this humble man from Hawaiian Homestead land in Anahola, Kaua`i was called to deliver so powerful a message from the halls of the US Congress.
See it for yourself this coming Wednesday on FreeHawaiiTV.
And mahalo to all who have let us know how much you enjoy our interview with Doug Kahikina Chang and his impact on Hawai`i’s tourism.
Because of your many requests, we feature Doug again this week on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.
MONDAY, August 6th At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, August 10th At 5:30 PM – Hawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53
TUESDAY, August 7th At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, August 8th At 6:30 AM – Maui – Akaku, Channel 53

THE INOUYE - STEVENS AKAKA BILL CONNECTION
Convicted Senator Stevens Donors Fed Inouye's Campaign Too
Hawai`i Democratic Senaor Daniel Inouye and Alaska Republican Senator Ted Stevens share some of the same Alaska political contributors, including top executives who have pleaded guilty in a widening federal investigation of political corruption in Alaska.
Inouye got $11,000 from VECO-linked donors in 2003, included Bill Allen and Richard Smith, who pleaded guilty to spending $400,000 to bribe members of the Alaska Legislature.
Now Stevens is under investigation - Inouye is defending him.

WHAT DO HAWAIIANS REALLY THINK OF THE AKAKA BILL?
Here's What They Say Of The Attempt To Classify Hawaiians As American Indians
"We will fight the Akaka Bill every inch of the way.
The attempt to usurp the jurisdiction and authority of the Hawaiian Kingdom by creating a US governing entity is repugnant and constitutes a grevious conflict of interest.
The wording of the Bill is designed to obfuscate the facts, the reality of our inherent rights which we have not surrendered to the USA, and enforce compliance to the whims of the USA, its corporations, and its military.
All these violate the laws of occupation and an affront to our neutrality, friendship, and respective treaties....
It is through the US State Department and not through the Department of Interior that these actions should be resolved.
Until then, the US must protect the Hawai`i Nationals' rights and welfare under the laws of occupation which they have been derelict in performing.
Avoiding the issue does not make it go away or dissappear. Sooner or later, the USA must address this illegal and criminal incursion.
We love our country as much as the US Americans love theirs.
Would one expect any less?"
