PALACE GROUNDS NOW OPEN - HAWAIIAN KINGDOM MEMBERS TO RETURN TOMORROW
Public & School Children Arrive To Show Support
HONOLULU - Hawaiian Kingdom officials opened the back gate to `Iolani Palace grounds around 2:15 PM today in response to a request from Gary Moniz, head of law enforcement for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
All entry to the grounds had been blocked since early this morning by the Native Hawaiian organization that erected no-trespassing signs, saying the grounds are the property of the "Hawaiian Kingdom."
Anyone is now free to come and go through the back gate.
The Hawaiian group that has occupied the grounds since early this morning say they plan to leave by 5 PM today and return tomorrow.
About 70 people with the "Hawaiian Kingdom Government" gathered on palace grounds beginning at 5:30 AM this morning.
Shortly after noon, Honolulu Police Chief Boisse Correa and and HPD spokesman Maj. Frank Fujii approached the palace grounds and asked to speak with the leader of the group, Mahealani Asing Kahau.
They were allowed onto the grounds and spoke with Kahau, surrounded by members of the sovereignty group. The meeting broke up after about 20 minutes.
Afterward, Kahau said Correa had advised her that arrest warrants were being prepared for possible use by officers with the state DLNR in the event they do not leave the palace grounds.
She said they would not resist if arrested. But she said if they're arrested, they will return to the palace tomorrow.
Signs are posted on the gates and only kanaka maoli — those with Hawaiian bloodlines — along with media are being allowed entrance to the grounds.
The Hawaiian organization says it is the rightful owner of the palace and it is time to assume and resume its official seat on `Iolani grounds.
Security guards representing the Kingdom have been posted at each gate and they are giving out applications to those wanting to be recognized by the organization.
About 40 to 45 faculty and students from Halau Lokahi Public Charter School arrived at the palace grounds, some to document the events taking place today from the Hawaiian perspective and others to offer spiritual support for the group, according to teacher Hina Wong.

WHO REALLY OWNS HAWAI`I? - CONNECTING THE DOTS ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE A very big mahalo to all who have contacted us to say, “the pieces are beginning to fit,” when watching Voices Of Truth and Free Hawai`i TV. With this weeks’ appointment of the former commander of the US Pacific Fleet to run the Superferry, it’s now blatantly obvious the Superferry has been primarily a military operation from the outset. The ability to land US military equipment on any of Hawai`i’s islands at a moments notice was their plan all along. We’ve reported that one simple fact on Free Hawai`i TV from the beginning. Now couple that with our recent Voices Of Truth guests who stress not only malama ka `aina (preserving the land,) but something else getting bigger every day - the growing awareness that all land title in Hawai`i is clouded. All of a sudden you begin to see why the US occupying force wants the military capability the Superferry affords – more and more of Hawai`i’s citizens, people who love their land, awakening to a realization the US has no legal title to land in Hawai`i even by their own laws. The Hawai`i state supreme court recently acknowledged this fact in their decision referencing the 1993 Apology Resolution when ruling ceded lands may not be sold or transferred. We’ll be explaining this and a whole lot more coming this Wednesday on Free Hawai`i TV – don’t miss it. By the way if you support our issues on the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network, please email this to a friend and see below how you can help us continue our work. And because we’ve received so much positive feedback on our visit with Earl Louis, we’re airing it on all islands this week. Earl’s one of those who knows not only who really owns the land in Hawai`i, but whose responsible for taking care of it. If you want to see both humility and strength in action, don’t miss him this week on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future. Located in the district of Ka`u, he tells us Punalu`u sees more development and tourists practically every day. A fierce advocate for preserving the last uninhabited coastline on Hawai`i Island, Earl knows both the good and bad news - Punalu`u is not only beautiful but easily accessible. “Why should we cater to people who want to destroy this land with more resorts and condominiums?” That’s the question Earl confronts on a daily basis. Fertilizers from resort golf courses flow to the ocean, killing off the limu (seaweed) that is food for both the fish and Hawksbill turtle that come to nest on Punalu`u beaches and lay their eggs. Earl’s mission of trying to save the entire eighty-mile coastline might seem daunting to some. To him, it’s simply what must be done. Join us in our amazing visit with Earl and you’ll experience what we did - a humble man whose words stay with you a very long time - “This is what the ancestors left for us thousands of years ago. We need to educate our visitors. They don’t know how special and sacred this `aina is. Is There Any Doubt Left The Superferry Is A Military Vehicle?
HONOLULU -- Retired US Admiral Thomas B. Fargo will replace John Garibaldi next week as president and chief executive officer of Hawai`i Superferry Inc., the company announced.
Fargo's appointment takes effect on Monday.
Fargo served as both the commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, the nation's largest military command, from 1999 to 2002, and as commander-in-chief of the US Pacific Fleet. He then retired after 35 years with the Navy.
He serves as a managing director of J.F. Lehman & Co., the majority investor in Hawai`i Superferry. It was founded in 1992 by John Lehman, who served as secretary of the Navy from 1981 to 1987.
Garibaldi will become vice chairman of Hawai`i Superferry and serve on its board of directors.

FOREIGN NATIONS DEMAND U.S. FREE HAWAI`I AS COURT BARS SELLING CEDED LAND
Russia and Romania demanded on February 23, 2008, at a United Nations commission meeting in Geneva, Switzerland the United States restore self determination to Hawai`i.
Meanwhile the so-called state of Hawai`i cannot sell or transfer the 1.8 million acres of former Hawaiian monarchy lands, known as ceded lands, until the claims of Native Hawaiians to the property have been resolved, the Hawai`i Supreme Court has ruled.
This ruling means the Supreme Court doubts the state of Hawai`i is the legal owner of State controlled lands.
Settling the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom has become an international issue.
The U.S. Army - took my nephew - lied to him, made him feel guilty for not wanting to go back to Iraq - made him feel shame - and then brainwashed him - lies lies and more lies from beginning to end.
I told Ikaika - my darling boy - if you don't want to go you don't have to - you went TWICE already - you're an only son.
He said it's "bigger than him and a numbers game."
OMG - NOTHING IS BIGGER THAN YOU - IKAIKA! Who told you that lie?
And since his heart tells him it's wrong to go and kill Iraqis - to bring "freedom and democracy" to their country - to "civilize" them like they did to our Hawai`i - then if a bullet doesn't get him, his broken heart will - because he will go against his heart and come back a broken soul.
Anybody remember the movie, "The Green Mile?" Recall this line, "...they kills you with your love."
Yes - someone just stole my future.

STEALING YOUR FUTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
Mahalo nui loa to all who took time over the past few weeks to protest wrongdoings of both the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Superferry.
You told us you contacted the legislature to express your outrage and it’s paid off big time.
Auditor Marion Higa released a report on Thursday saying the state may have compromised its environmental policy under pressure from Hawai`i Superferry executives concerned about financing for the interisland ferry project.
The auditor found an internal deadline by the Superferry for financing for ship construction "drove the process" and led the state Department of Transportation to bypass an environmental review.
Big surprise, huh?
Who did your elected representatives put first? People or profits?
Whose future did they consider the most important – yours or their own?
Consider this – people who love their land don’t do these kinds of things. People who love only money do.
A Free Hawai`i based on Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiian) values would not allow this to occur.
Citizens of a Free Hawai`i know the importance of putting the `aina (land) first.
So keep the pressure up. The Office Of Hawaiian Affairs is next and they’re hiding plenty.
And be sure to check out Free Hawai`i TV this week for all the late breaking news.

MONDAY, April 21st At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, April 25th At 5:30 PM –Hawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53 TUESDAY, April 22nd At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, April 23rd At 6:30 AM –Maui – Akaku, Channel 53 “Hale Halawai – Monument To Activists – A Visit With Soli Papakihei Niheu”
People were concerned about longtime Hawaiian political activist Soli Papakihei Niheu.
In poor health and living in an old one-room structure in Waimea, his friends knew he needed something better.
So they decided to act. They collected contributions, both money and materials, and soon had enough resources to build him a new house.
That’s when Soli stepped forward to let them know he didn’t want a house.
Instead he wanted the one thing missing in Hawai`i that’s common throughout most other islands in the Pacific - a hale halawai.
Similar to the Maori marae in Aotearoa, (New Zealand,) hale halawai is a formal meeting place to receive and host visitors from far and wide, through Hawaiian protocol and hospitality.
Soli saw his hale halawai as a place to host sovereignty movement activists from all over Te Moana Nui – The Polynesian Triangle.
Because Soli had dedicated his life to serving others, they knew they now had to do the same thing for him.
So they built it for him.
In our moving and highly inspirational visit with Soli, you’ll hear him tell his story and see the pictures for yourself of how his hale halawai became reality. Surviving two earthquakes and many other challenges, Soli persevered in his vision of having both a monument to his heroes, the early pioneers of the sovereignty movement, as well as a place for today to teach the young.
THURSDAY, April 24th At 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, April 25th At 8:30 AM – Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52 “Modern Konohiki – A Visit With Ke`eaumoku Kapu”
“What is the destiny in your life?
“What is the history of this place and is there a place suitable for me?”
These are questions that drive the spirit of Ke`eaumoku Kapu, modern day warrior and protector of the `aina.
A former construction worker building houses and highways, Ke`eaumoku’s first awakening came during the 1993 Onipa`a March in Honolulu.
The second occurred when he found himself actually making concrete parts for the H-3 freeway, which eventually caused the desecration of ancient sites in Halawa Valley on O`ahu.
Needing to earn money to feed his family, he kept asking himself, “Is what I’m doing pono, is it just? Is the knowledge I’m acquiring through the corporate system legitimate, based on my life as an island person and Kanaka Maoli?”
Soon thereafter he walked in, quit his job and dedicated the rest of his life to answering the question, “Is there a way to create just with the unjust?”
Today he and his wife run no less than five associations dedicated to serving those threatened with losing their family land to corporate development.
Don’t miss Ke`eaumoku as he leads us through his own awakening that took him from someone whose life was run by US corporations to the warrior he is today who sits on the County of Maui Cultural Resources Commission and the Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council. See for yourself how he realized the “contemporary management system has nothing to do with our upbringing as Kanaka Maoli,” and the words he lives by – “we must do whatever we can because our land is at stake.”
SATURDAY, April 26th At 8:00 PM – O`ahu -`Olelo, Channel 53 “Carrier Of The Culture – A Visit With Sabra Kauka”
Since Sabra lasted visited us on Voices Of Truth, she hasn’t stopped for a minute, doing what she does best – preserving the culture.
She shares with us in telling and pictures about her participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. as the leader of the Hawaiian weavers delegation for Carriers of Culture: Living Native Basket Traditions.
Then Sabra gives us a tantalizing review and much background information on the phenomenal Ho`okahi Kapa - the contemporary kapa exhibit at Bishop Museum with more incredible photos.
And finally if all that isn’t enough, she goes on to describe what very few have ever gotten to see firsthand on her own island - Nu`alolo Kai, an ancient Kaua`i valley left untouched for hundreds of years the way the people of old left it.
Don’t miss this incredible segment as Sabra describes her involvement in the caretaking of this amazing site on the Na Pali Coast. The entire show is filled with stories and photos you’ll long remember of all three events.

OPEN LETTER TO THE US LEFT FROM THE HAWAIIAN SOVEREIGNTY MOVEMENT
The confluence of two forces, a massive military expansion in Hawai`i and Congressional legislation that will stymie the Kanaka Maoli [Native Hawaiian] sovereignty movement, will expand and consolidate the use of Hawai`i for US empire.
We are calling on the US left to join our movement opposing these threats and to add our quest for independence as a plank of the broad US left strategy for a nonimperialist America.
If you support peace and justice for the United States and the world, please support demilitarization and independence for Hawai`i.
Since 1893, the United States has malformed Hawai`i into the command and control center for US imperialism in Oceania and Asia.
From the hills of the Ewa district of O`ahu, the US Pacific Command--the largest of the unified military commands--directs troops and hardware throughout literally half the planet.
Since the late nineteenth century, the US military has multiplied in our islands, taking 150,000 acres for its use, including one-quarter of the metropolitan island of O`ahu.
Moreover, the National Security Administration is building a new surveillance facility nearby, not far from where urban assault brigades, called Strykers, will train for deployment throughout the world...
TRUTH COMES OUT - SUPERFERRY CHEATS BY FORCING ENVIRONMENTAL EXEMPTION
Honolulu Star-Bulletin Thursday, April 17, 2008
Hawai`i's government caved in to pressure from the Hawai`i Superferry, allowing it to bypass an environmental review by the state, according to an audit to be released today.
The report finds that the Department of Transportation exempted the Superferry from an environmental study after the interisland ship threatened not to come to Hawai`i unless it was given the go-ahead by June 30, 2005.
"In the end, the state may have compromised its environmental policy in favor of a private company's internal deadline," according to the audit, ordered by the Legislature and prepared by Auditor Marion Higa.
The Transportation Department's exemption set in motion a series of events including ocean protests off Kaua`i, court rulings that stopped the ferry and emergency legislation overriding the courts.
Since then the Superferry has been carrying small loads of passengers and cars from Honolulu to Maui when it has not needed repairs, as it did from Feb. 13 to April 7. The ferry still has not resumed voyages to Kaua`i.

SATURDAY, April 19th At 8:00 PM –O`ahu - `Olelo, Channel 53 “Eyes Of The Kupuna – A Visit With Aunty Pele Hanoa” Imagine living next to a beautiful black sands beach, a place you’ve lived your entire life. Nature is at your door. The ocean, the beach, endangered turtles use the area coming ashore to breed. Now also imagine tour buses pulling up next to your home and brining one thousand tourists a day. That’s right, one thousand tourists every single day. Tourists who harass the turtles, steal the sand for souvenirs, leave litter, and behave obnoxiously. How would you like to put up with that every day of your life? Aunty Pele does. Born and raised in Punalu`u, she’s a prime example of old Hawai`i - staying on the land where you were born, because you were taught from an early age to malama the `aina – care for your ancestral land. All around her things are changing – and not for the better. Multi-national corporations building developments on the shore and then stealing the water from agricultural lands for their projects. Yet none of this stops her. Be sure and catch our visit with Aunty Pele. You’ll be as inspired as we were by this remarkable kupuna who stops at nothing and whose message is one you’ll long remember – “We accepted everyone who came to Hawai`i. BULLETIN! - BACK DOOR DEALING CONTINUES WITH CEDED LANDS BILL
Your Help Needed Now To Defeat This Bill
Private dealing continues between the Office Of Hawaiian Affairs and the Hawai`i legislature on the ceded lands bill.
Despite overwhelming constituent outcry against it and the senate killing the bill, representative Kirk Caldwell and OHA are busy manufacturing support and calling for a conference to discuss the bill, HB1201.
Here are conference members - Senator Kokubun - senkokubun@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-6760 Senator Baker - senbaker@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-6070 Senator English - senenglish@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 587-7225 Senator Hee - senhee@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-7330 Senator Slom - senslom@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-8420 Senator Hanabusa - senhanabusa@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-7793 Senator Tokuda - sentokuda@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 587-7215 Representative Ito - repito@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-8470 Representative Ward - repward@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-6420 Representative Say - repsay@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-6100 Representative Karamatsu - repkaramatsu@Capitol.hawaii.gov (808) 586-8490
Contact those listed above and let them know any measure pertaining to the Ceded Land Settlement is unacceptable and should not be passed.
You, your family, and friends can make a critical difference.
Aloha mai, I am contacting you to help kill HB 1201.
I believe that the disputed matters pertaining to the Ceded Lands can be resolved in a fair, just, and honest manner.
But the legislation OHA is suggesting is not legitimate.
Once the Settlement Agreement is nullified, I support 1) a full and complete inventory of the Ceded Lands, 2) an audit of all gross revenues generated by the Ceded Lands, 3) beneficiary consultation with all stakeholders, and 4) an OHA audit.
Please vote "NO" on HB1201.

CURIOUS ABOUT HOW HAWAI`I SUPPOSEDLY BECAME A US STATE?
The United States acquired Hawai`i through force.
Queen Lili`uokalani, Hawai`i's last Queen, was deposed on Jan. 17, 1893, by a group of American businessmen supported by the United States Navy and Marine Corps and diplomatic representatives.
Sovereignty of Hawai`i was allegedly transferred to the U.S. on Aug. 12, 1898 during ceremonies at `Iolani Palace in Honolulu, on the island of O`ahu.
Hawai`i allegedly became a U.S. territory in 1900.
On Nov. 23, 1993, The United States apologized for illegally overthrowing the Kingdom of Hawai`i, and recognized the inherent sovereignty and right of self-determination of native islanders.
Needless to say, a lot of shady events took place between Jan. 17,1893 and Aug. 21, 1959.
Hawaiian sovereignty is a hot issue in the islands to this day and likely will be for as long as the United States flag flies over Hawai`i.

SHOULDN'T HAWAIIANS BE GLAD THEY'RE A PART OF THE U.S. ?
Here's How Hawai`i Nationals Feel About The Overthrow Of Their Country
Let's pretend I visit your house.
You offer me food and rest. I decide to stay.
Then, I order you and your family around, use your things and rearrange the rooms.
I take down your photos and religious symbols, replace them with my own and make you speak my language.
One day, I dig up your garden and replace it with crops that I can sell.
You and your family must now buy all of your food from me.
Later, I invite my father and his buddies over.
They bring guns. We take your keys.
I forge a deed and declare my father to be the owner of your house.
I bring more people. Some work for me. Some pay me to stay in your house.
I seize your savings and spend it on my friends.
You and your family now sleep on the porch.
Finally you protest.
Being reasonable, I let you stay in a corner of the house and give you a small allowance, but only if you behave.
I tell you, "Sorry, I was wrong for taking the house."
But when you demand your house back, I tell you to be realistic."You are part of this family now, whether you like it or not," I say. "Besides, this is for your own good.
For all that I have done for you, why aren't you grateful?"

SECRET DEALS SELLING HAWAIIANS OUT ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE
Just when we thought the ceded lands bill was dead, a few members of the House of Representatives in the Hawai`i legislature have gone out of their way to keep it alive. It seems their plan is to use a bill lingering from last year with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as the subject, gutting the wording and replace it with the ceded lands settlement. At the same time OHA has been transferring millions of dollars worth of beneficiary lands and money into their private corporations. Lands on Kaua`i were transferred into their Hi`ileialoha limited liability corporation, as was Waimea Falls Park on O`ahu. A few weeks ago a half a million dollars went in and word now is another $4.2 million transfer will soon occur. All this without consulting anyone, including beneficiaries or even a master plan. We’ll have more, fast-breaking details about all of this in the next few days on Free Hawai`i TV. Be sure and tune in for all the latest updates. And by the way, if you support our issues on the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network, please email this to a friend and see below how you can help us continue our work. But if you smell a rat in all of this, here’s how you can help stop this backdoor dealing. Send an email to the following legislators and let them know you want the ceded lands settlement stopped now
You don’t have to live in Hawai`i to help out here. In fact, we ask you forward this info to everyone you know who cares about Hawai`i and its people. It’s a way you can help make a difference this week along with all of us right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future. MONDAY, April 7th At 7:00 PM & FRIDAY, April 11th At 5:30 PM – Hawai`i Island – Na Leo, Channel 53 “Modern Konohiki – A Visit With Ke`eaumoku Kapu”
“What is the destiny in your life? “What is the history of this place and is there a place suitable for me?” These are questions that drive the spirit of Ke`eaumoku Kapu, modern day warrior and protector of the `aina. Is the knowledge I’m acquiring through the corporate system legitimate, based on my life as an island person and Kanaka Maoli?” Soon thereafter he walked in, quit his job and dedicated the rest of his life to answering the question, “Is there a way to create just with the unjust?” Today he and his wife run no less than five associations dedicated to serving those threatened with losing their family land to corporate development.
TUESDAY, April 8th At 6:30 PM & WEDNESDAY, April 9th At 6:30 AM – Maui – Akaku, Channel 53 “Eyes Of The Kupuna – A Visit With Aunty Pele Hanoa” Imagine living next to a beautiful black sands beach, a place you’ve lived your entire life. Now they should reciprocate by protecting and caring for what we have.”
THURSDAY, April 10th At 8:30 PM & FRIDAY, April 11th At 8:30 AM – Kaua`i – Ho`ike, Channel 52 “Hale Halawai – Monument To Activists – A Visit With Soli Papakihei Niheu” People were concerned about longtime Hawaiian political activist Soli Papakihei Niheu.
SATURDAY, April 12th At 8:00 PM –O`ahu - `Olelo, Channel 53 “Continuing The Quest – A Visit With Earl Louis” Living his entire life of 43 years in Punalu`u, on Hawai`i Island, Earl has seen a lot of changes. Development is not the only answer.” Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same. Claiming that Hawai`i Superferry profits do not trump federally mandated environmental requirements, attorneys filed an opening brief in the Intermediate Court of Appeals this week.
Attorneys argued in the brief that Kaua`i should enjoy the same constitutional protections afforded to everyone else.
Dan Hempey and Greg Meyers, attorneys for 1,000 Friends of Kaua`i, filed the appeal of two September 2007 rulings greenlighting the Hawai`i Superferry despite its lacking an Environmental Assessment.
Hawai`i Superferry had claimed it would face financial strain if forced to stop operations while completing the EA.
In 2005 the Department of Transportation individually exempted the improvements to each of the four harbors that would receive the Superferry, stating that the individual harbor improvements would have no significant impact on the environment.
The 1,000 Friends of Kaua`i brief states that "the court should protect the public and enforce (the Hawaiian Environmental Protection Act), even against violators who can show that they cleverly approved a statewide project in several subparts, or who may lose a lot of money if the environmental laws are applied to them."
Claiming that ruling in favor of the environment on Maui but not on Kaua`i presents an inequity, Hempey and Meyers wrote,"Citizens of Maui were protected from the Superferry, while citizens of Kaua`i could not enjoin the Superferry, despite the statewide HEPA violation."
