WHY DO HAWAI`I NATIONALS WANT THEIR NATION & LAND BACK?

- Because today Native Hawaiians are at a criical juncture to survive as a people.

- Because for foreign business interests it's a matter of profit and loss. For Native Hawaiians it's a matter of life and death.

- Because we seek to protect our natural resources.

- Because while Native Hawaiian families are struggling to survive, their water is being shipped to the other side of the island so that housing and resorts can be built by rich foreigners.

- Because it is our national inheritance - never given away by either native treaty or by native vote.

STEALING THE HAWAIIAN NATION - ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Here's How The US & The Office Of Hawaiian Affairs Are Planning To Do It

By their own laws, the US cannot simply walk in and take Hawaiian land titles and erase the word "Royal" and replace it with "United States" Patent.

They and the State of Hawai`i have never had clear title to land in Hawai`i since Jan 17, 1893. They know this.

The only way the United States will ever be able to get clear title to Hawaiian Islands is if Hawaiians give it to them.

This is why title to the Hawaiian islands never transferred to the United States by the Newlands resolution.

The Newlands resolution relied on a treaty of Annexation from the republic of Hawai`i.

But the Republic never owned title because the Kingdom of Hawai`i never gave it to them.

But now they got a plan -they are going to get Hawaiians to give title to them.

How Will They Do That?

They are already trying to register a majority of Hawaiians on a "Kau Inoa" roll.

Then they're going to draft governing documents to "re-organize the Hawaiian government."

They 're going to get Hawaiians to elect officers to that government.

Next, they're going to make sure those governing documents give the officers of the government the authority to give away title in negotiations.

Then, they're going to try to get the majority of Hawaiians on the roll to vote for the new governing documents to reorganize the Hawaiian government.

Then that government authorized and approved by the majority of Hawaiians will sit down at the negotiating table with the US and trade land title for cash and benefits
.

Many people believe that only the Kingdom of Hawai`i is authorized to give a way title to the Hawaiian Islands - and they are correct, but only as long as the kingdom remains intact.

If the majority of its subjects revolt by forming a new government, the kingdom no longer exists.

WHO WINS IN A FREE & INDEPENDENT HAWAI`I?
EVERYONE !

One of the biggest lies perpetuated today is that when Hawai`i achieves nationhood once again it will be at the expense of everyone else.

But no one will be kicked out; their businesses seized or their homes and property confiscated.

Instead, everyone, Hawaiians and all others, will be citizens of the sovereign and independent Nation of Hawai`i. The Hawaiian Nation included people of many ethnic backgrounds that were loyal citizens before the illegal overthrow and it will be so again.

The truth is a sovereign Hawaiian nation will need the contributions and talents of all of its citizens to remain viable in the world.

Hawaiians would be no better than the very supremacists that overthrew and occupied them were they to divide people by race.

Hawaiians have always been inclusive, not exclusive.

How would this be accomplished politically given a civil war resulted the last time a state tried to leave the US?

Unlike the southern US states, the Kingdom of Hawai`i and its citizens never agreed to become part of the United States in the first place.

Therefore a move for Hawai`i to secede from the US would be both unnecessary and inappropriate.

Much like removing the top coat of paint to reveal the one underneath, the US Congress, after consultation between Hawaiians and the US at the level of state to state, could simply enact a US federal law that dissolves the entity known as the “state government” in Hawai`i.

What would be left in its place is what has existed all along anyway without interruption – the Nation of Hawai`i. Only at that point, would it be appropriate for the citizens of Hawai`i to decide their future as it relates to a relationship with the United States.

Those possibilities would include –

Full Independence - Joining once again the family of nations in the world.

Free Association Much like Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Integration with the US Becoming a state again or a tribe of the US under federal recognition.

Did you know that when Ronald Reagan was president, one of the most conservative US presidents in recent times, his administration actually granted the Marshall Islands independence in 1986, which then lead to a free association relationship with the US?

Precedent for Hawaiian independence exists right now within US law as outlined above. There are no laws that exist today within the US to prevent the US federal government from dissolving a state government. It is only fear and ignorance that holds the status quo in place.

STOPPING THE MADNESS & BUILDING THE FUTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

More and more people are beginning to publicly question the legitimacy of the Office Of Hawaiian Affair’s Kau Inoa campaign.

Hawaiians who may have been early signers as well as those who did not now question it’s real purpose versus what OHA has been claiming it’s for.

What’s telling of course is OHA’s inability to explain why Hawaiians should support Kau Inoa other than the single word “because…” in their marketing campaign.

And in spite of continued denials by OHA trustees that the list will never be used to promote the Akaka bill, everyone knows differently.

Even former OHA trustees have acknowledged as recently as this last week that signers names will in fact be used in the future by OHA to claim broad based support by Hawaiians for federal recognition.

All of this of course being funded with millions of Hawaiian beneficiary dollars that along with Akaka bill lobbying some in the know are now claiming approaches the 20 million dollar mark.

So what can you do? Is there a way to stop this madness?

Even if you’re one of those who signed on the Kau Inoa registry, but now regret doing so, it’s not too late.

Over the next few weeks on Free Hawai`i TV we’ll be giving you information as well as actions you can take to let OHA know you don’t support their plans.

Stay tuned to Free Hawai`i TV – there’s some amazing things to come soon to show you ways to say “No!” to both Kau Inoa and the Akaka bill.

And if you support our issues on the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network, please email this to a friend and see below how you can help us continue our work.

“Keeping The Old Ways Alive – A Visit With Kumu John Keola Lake”

A true living legend, Kumu John Lake, who passed away recently, lived his heritage.

For more than four decades he shared his knowledge of Hawaiian language, hula and chant. And he did it with a geniality that drew people to him, that makes you recall the kupuna of old.

Because of his deep love for the culture, it came out in his personality, the way he taught and shared information. He made you want to be informed and live it that way yourself.

Why then is it so important to bring the knowledge of the past to the present? What messages do our ancestors have waiting for us to learn today?

Join us in our visit with Kumu Lake, an incomparable wellspring of knowledge who made a priceless impact on so many, as he shows us why the lessons of old are the keys to success for our Nation today.

MONDAY, MAY 26th At 6:30 PM Maui – Akaku, Channel 53
“Eyes Of The Kupuna – A Visit With Aunty Pele Hanoa”

Imagine living next to a beautiful black sands beach, a place you’ve lived your entire life.

Nature is at your door. The ocean, the beach, endangered turtles use the area coming ashore to breed.

Now also imagine tour buses pulling up next to your home and brining one thousand tourists a day. That’s right, one thousand tourists every single day.

Tourists who harass the turtles, steal the sand for souvenirs, leave litter, and behave obnoxiously.

How would you like to put up with that every day of your life?

Aunty Pele does.

Born and raised in Punalu`u, she’s a prime example of old Hawai`i - staying on the land where you were born, because you were taught from an early age to malama the `aina – care for your ancestral land.

All around her things are changing – and not for the better. Multi-national corporations building developments on the shore and then stealing the water from agricultural lands for their projects.

Yet none of this stops her.

Be sure and catch our visit with Aunty Pele. You’ll be as inspired as we were by this remarkable kupuna who stops at nothing and whose message is one you’ll long remember – “We accepted everyone who came to Hawai`i. Now they should reciprocate by protecting and caring for what we have.”

SATURDAY, May 31st At 8:00 PM O`ahu - `Olelo, Channel 53
“Kukulu Kumu Hana O Punalu`u – A Visit With Sheryl Waimakalani Iona”

“We don’t say no, we just say come.”

With those words Kukulu Kumu Hana O Punalu`u, a two week residential summer cultural immersion program for children of Ka`u district on Hawai`i island was born.

Kukulu kumu hana, which means to pool one’s thoughts to solve common problems, brings children down to the beach at Punalu`u to discover who they are and their connection to the `aina.

Started by the late Keola Hanoa, Sheryl Iona stepped in after her cousin’s passing. She had big shoes to fill, but for Sheryl, that was no problem at all.

She tells us, “We share with them who we see they’ll become. They always end up being it, having pride in themselves, their culture and their ancestors.”

Participants now come from all over the island, even foster children, to learn respect, values, commitments and to malama (care for) each other and the `aina.

With the original students now acting as teachers, the circle keep growing as participants learn the cultural importance of cleaning the land, planting, and rising early each morning, chanting to greet the sun.

You’ll be as moved as we were in our amazing visit with Sheryl as she shares with us the secret of her success - “We love these children no matter what and see them as they are. In the end, they always leave feeling good about themselves and their future.”

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.

FORMER OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS TRUSTEE SPEAKS OUT ON THE REAL PURPOSE OF OHA'S KAU INOA

OHA Trustee Oswald Stender once said that Kau Inoa was designed
to be the "roll" that is mentioned in the Akaka bill.

This roll will be the register of the citizens of the "Native Hawaiian
Governing Entity."

In the Akaka bill,
Hawaiians would only get to be a "governing entity" that is subservient to the plenary powers of the US congress.

In other words - the "governing entity"
will be a dependent government beholden to the US with the US calling all the shots.

The Akaka bill process will allow Hawaiians to transform the Hawaiian Kingdom - a member of the Family of Nations - into a subservient "governing entity" of the US.

The Akaka bill also allows for a negotiation to settle claims to the Kingdom's lands.

Any lands that happen to be settled will be held in trust by the US like all Indian lands are. The US has not been a responsible trustee for lands it has held in trust.

The US presently has a clouded title to the so-called "ceded" lands - as
they were "ceded" to the US by the Republic of Hawai`i - that had no good title.

The Akaka bill will "perfect" the title to any and all of the ceded
lands that the US will retain.

In other words, the Akaka bill will complete
the annexation of the 1890s.

In turn, Hawaiians will be wards of the US government. This is like trading
"first class" citizenship for "second class" citizenship.

However, if the US decides to "terminate" the "Native
Hawaiian Governing Entity" at some later date - it can reverse the sovereignty process, resulting in the conversion of all the "trust" lands into its own fee-simple lands - resulting in the second theft of Hawaiian lands.

Bottom line - Kau Inoa is part of the process to make Hawaiians into second
class citizens of the US and to finish the theft of its lands.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER? SUPERFERRY TRIES TO ACT LIKE IT WANTS YOUR OPINION

A private firm wants residents to share their knowledge of Nawiliwili so it can assess the potential cultural impacts from a large-capacity ferry operating at the island’s main harbor.

Cultural Surveys Hawai`i will be interviewing community members in the next two months. The public input will be incorporated into a comprehensive environmental study conducted by Belt Collins Hawai`i that includes secondary and cumulative impacts.

Last year the state mandated an after-the-fact environmental review of $40 million in statewide harbor improvements to accommodate Hawai`i Superferry, a company that has struggled to keep its head up in a sea of legal and technical trouble and waves of community resistance since its launch last summer.

HAWAIIAN KINGDOM GOVERNMENT STANDS THEIR GROUND AGAINST US OCCUPIERS - LITERALLY

Thirty-three representatives of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government gathered in a circle on `Iolani Palace grounds at 7:05 AM this morning, joining hands and saying a prayer and singing before eventually coming together for a private meeting and declining all interviews with the media.

On Friday, the US controlled Department of Land and Natural Resources denied the group's request for a right to assemble permit that is required for all groups of 25 or more.

The group applied for a new permit this morning, and that permit request is still pending.

Hawaiian Kingdom Government representatives have been staying on palace grounds during the work week since April 30 when they initially laid claim to the grounds and denied public access to them for nearly eight hours.

Since the first week, Hawaiian Kingdom representatives have applied for and received permits to assemble on the premise on a weekly basis.

This morning's gathering of 33 was monitored closely by DLNR law officials who were parked in the adjacent parking lot less than 100 yards away.

Following the group's closed meeting, Kahau briefly met with a DLNR enforcement officer and hugged him. It's not clear at this time if the Hawaiian Kingdom applied for and received a new permit.

Hawaiian Kingdom representatives have said in the past they will continue to occupy the grounds indefinitely.

A handful of them started funneling onto the property before 6 AM and Kahau arrived at 7 AM with a lei around her neck. After brief greetings, the representatives met for 55 minutes.

Many of their vehicles had license plates reading "Hawaiian Kingdom Government," and a number rather than state of Hawai`i plates.

Also, as of 8:30 AM the representatives hadn't put any money into the parking meters on the grounds.

UN SECRETARY GENERAL ENDORSES PERMANENT FORUM ON INDIGENOUS ISSUES RECOMMENDATIONS

Hawai`i Among Nations Calling For Freedom

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has declared that “the monumental task (of decolonisation) is as yet complete.”

In a message read on his behalf to a Pacific intergovernmental meeting of the Special Committee on Decolonisation which convened in Bandung, Indonesia from 15th to 17th May, the Secretary-General said that “colonialism has no place in today’s world,” and “urge(d) all administering powers to actively engage with the United Nations in discharging the U.N. mandate on decolonisation.”

The Secretary General’s message went on to “encourage all parties to continue working together to complete the decolonisation process in every one of the remaining 16 non self-governing territories.”

As the statement from the Secretary-General was being read, it was reported that a group of students from West Papua were demonstrating outside the conference site in favour of the re-inscription of that territory on United Nations List of Non Self-Governing Territories.

REMEMBERING KUMU JOHN KEOLA LAKE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

Hawai`i lost another of its living legends this last week.

When Kumu John Keola Lake died, he left us a legacy rich in oli (chant) and mo`olelo (stories.)

Kumu Lake was designated one of Hawai`i’s Living Treasures some time ago during his own lifetime and for good reason.

He remarked more than once, "I am my culture."

Not only did he carry forth ways of Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiian) culture from the past, but showed us why they have direct application for our future.

Moreover, Kumu Lake fulfilled one of his life’s missions well before he departed.

He passed his knowledge and skills down to his haumana (students) so they were able to recreate it and teach others long before his health declined.

Kumu Lake took pleasure in taking time to explain and teach anyone who was interested. He was indeed the very embodiment of aloha.

He not only knew the deep meaning of what it is to be Kanaka Maoli, he also knew what it means to be human.

We dedicate our Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network to Kumu Lake’s memory and awesome lifetime achievements by rebroadcasting our Voices Of Truth interview with him this week and next.

Be sure and sit down with your entire `ohana and watch our interview with him and you’ll see for yourself why he made such an impact on Hawai`i and it’s people.

If you support our issues on the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network, please email this to a friend and see below how you can help us continue our work.

Remember, Voices Of Truth now airs on Maui on a brand new day – Mondays at 6:30 PM on Akaku, channel 53.

It’s true it’s difficult to lose someone like John Keola Lake. But all our lives are richer for his being here, sharing in his knowledge and for having known him.

His vision, mission and accomplishments live on for all the world to see this week on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“Continuing The Quest – A Visit With Earl Louis”

Living his entire life of 43 years in Punalu`u, on Hawai`i Island, Earl has seen a lot of changes.

Located in the district of Ka`u, he tells us Punalu`u sees more development and tourists practically every day.

A fierce advocate for preserving the last uninhabited coastline on Hawai`i Island, Earl knows both the good and bad news - Punalu`u is not only beautiful but easily accessible.

“Why should we cater to people who want to destroy this land with more resorts and condominiums?”

That’s the question Earl confronts on a daily basis.

Fertilizers from resort golf courses flow to the ocean, killing off the limu (seaweed) that is food for both the fish and Hawksbill turtle that come to nest on Punalu`u beaches and lay their eggs.

Earl’s mission of trying to save the entire eighty-mile coastline might seem daunting to some.

To him, it’s simply what must be done.

Join us in our amazing visit with Earl and you’ll experience what we did - a humble man whose words stay with you a very long time - “This is what the ancestors left for us thousands of years ago. We need to educate our visitors. They don’t know how special and sacred this `aina is. Development is not the only answer.”

US OCCUPIERS DENY PERMIT TO HAWAIIAN KINGDOM GOVERNMENT

Honolulu Advertiser - Friday, May 16, 2008

The Hawaiian Kingdom Government has been denied permission to gather on the grounds of `Iolani Palace as it has been doing since April 30.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources, which oversees the palace grounds, cited several infractions in its explanation why the permit was being denied for the week of May 19.

In a letter hand-delivered today, Board of Land and Natural Resources chairwoman Laura H. Thielen said further permits won't be granted to the organization "until we obtain assurances that members of your organization will comply with permit conditions."

Thielen said three infractions of the permit occurred the week of May 5, including the setting up of a tent outside the permitted area, money-collecting by the organization, and attempts by group members to enter the palace itself.

Thielen also pointed out that on Wednesday, Hawaiian Kingdom Government head of state Mahealani Kahau and several other organization members entered the Kana`ina Building, the former archives building on the palace grounds that houses the Friends of `Iolani Palace, the nonprofit that operates the palace as a museum.

Kahau was escorted off the grounds later that day and told not to return for the rest of this week.

"Over the past two weeks, Mahealani Kahau and members of the organization have demonstrated that they will not comply with permit conditions," Thielen said.

"Accordingly, we cannot process your application until we receive satisfactory assurances that all members of the organization will comply with permit conditions...."
"WE'RE STAYING!"

Hawaiian Kingdom Government Officials Refuse To Back Down At `Iolani Palace

USA Today - May 15, 2008

HONOLULU — Native Hawaiians claiming to be the "seat of government for the Hawaiian Kingdom" vow to indefinitely occupy the grounds of historic Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu, as state officials consider possible penalties against them.

About 70 members of the organization known as the Hawaiian Kingdom Government chained the gates of the palace April 30 and barred non-Hawaiians from the palace grounds, a popular tourist attraction.

Though the palace quickly was reopened to the public, Hawaiian Kingdom Government members show no signs of leaving.

Mahealani Kahau, who calls herself head of state of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government, said the news media have misrepresented the organization as a Hawaiian "sovereignty group" or even "protesters."

"We're not protesting against anything," Kahau said. "We're not a sovereignty group. We are the seat of government for the Hawaiian Kingdom. We are here assuming and resuming the Hawaiian seat of government, and we are proceeding as the seat of government."

WELCOME IF YOU'RE VISITING FREEHAWAII.INFO FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Free Hawai`i means returning the Hawaiian Islands back to an independent nation status, as it was before it was illegally overthrown by US marines and rich sugar barons in 1893.

In 1993, President Clinton formally apologized for that act and publicly acknowledged the illegality of the overthrow.

DID YOU KNOW
-

98% of all Hawaiians living at the time opposed the illegal overthrow!

Today, less than 20% of all land in Hawai`i is in Hawaiian hands.

Over 60% today is in non-Hawaiian hands!

A few individuals, who are non-Hawaiian, lease an amount of land in Hawai`i that is greater than all land leased to all Native Hawaiians!

Currently, only 72 landowners control 95% of all land in Hawai`i.

Native Hawaiians make up the largest percentage of homeless in Hawai`i today.

Native Hawaiians have the worst social, educational and economic indicators compared to any ethnic group in the US.

Native Hawaiians currently have the worst health profile compared to any ethnic group in the US.

Descendants of the Hawaiian Nation want their country and land back so they can grow their own foods, become healthy once again, and control their own destiny.

RESULTS FROM SEVENTH ANNUAL PERMANENT FORUM ON INDIGENOUS ISSUES NOW ONLINE

Koani Foundation Director Kai`opua Fyfe Delivers Presentation On Hawai`i Decolonization

The United Nations (U.N.) Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII) at its Seventh Session held in New York ended its two-week session on 2nd May 2008 with the adoption of recommendations to implement the U.N.’s dormant decolonization agenda.

These recommendations were based on the conclusions of the half-day discussion on the Pacific region where a host of non-governmental organizations expressed concerns for the lack of implementation of the United Nations decolonization mandate, and offered solutions to jump-start the process.

WHO'S IN CHARGE? THE ANSWER MAY SURPRISE YOU ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

The Superferry's new CEO, Retired US Navy Admiral Thomas Fargo has attempted to put up a new public relations face stating it’s up to the people of Kaua`i to decide if and when the Superferry returns to their island.

Well, according to polls taken this last week by newspapers on both Maui and Kaua`i, he now has his answer.

Results are running two to one against the Superferry. The majority of people on both Maui and Kaua`i do not want the Superferry back.

Island residents paid attention and made sure their voice was heard.

One thing that did escape a lot of people’s attention however are special, martial law-like emergency powers that Hawai`i governor Linda Lingle now has at her fingertips.

If you’re saying to yourself “Huh?” right now, you’re not alone.

Legislation was recently enacted to allow her virtual dictatorial powers in Hawai`i whenever she chooses.

And here’s the worst part – the Hawai`i legislature chose not to include any oversight when the bill sailed through and was quietly voted into law.

Why would she want this kind of power? Here’s a hint – what does a US Navy Admiral in charge of the Super(Military)Ferry and a governor with dictator powers have in common?

Watch Free Hawai`i TV this coming Wednesday and find out. You’ll be as surprised as we were when we found out the whole story.

“Hidden In The Forest – A Visit With Dr. Baron Kaho`ola Ching”

Deep in a rain forest in Nu`uanu Valley sits one of the most remarkable sites in all Hawai`i.

Imagine a place lost in time and space to the modern world – Kaniakapupu.

A palatial summer residence for Kauikeaoli, Kamehameha III, Kaniakapupu was built over one hundred seventy years ago spanning twenty thousand acres.

Ka La Ho`i Ho`i Ea, Sovereignty Restoration Day, was celebrated on the site in 1843 with over ten thousand guests attending.

Several key documents in Hawaiian history were drafted there and many of Hawai`i’s future rulers visited the residence as children.

Then time swallowed up and forgot Kaniakapupu until one day a few years back Baron cut through thick bamboo forests to rediscover it for himself.

What he saw stopped him in his tracks.

Since then, Baron has overseen the caretaking of this astounding place that time forgot.

Whatever you do, don’t miss our visit with Baron to Kaniakapupu. One of the most unique places in all of Hawai`i, you’ll go with us hiking through dense rain forest as we come face to face ourselves with the ancient residence and artifacts left untouched for almost two centuries in this incredible voyage of rediscovery that is sure to take your breath away

“Modern Konohiki – A Visit With Ke`eaumoku Kapu”

“What is the destiny in your life?

“What is the history of this place and is there a place suitable for me?”

These are questions that drive the spirit of Ke`eaumoku Kapu, modern day warrior and protector of the `aina.

A former construction worker building houses and highways, Ke`eaumoku’s first awakening came during the 1993 Onipa`a March in Honolulu.

The second occurred when he found himself actually making concrete parts for the H-3 freeway, which eventually caused the desecration of ancient sites in Halawa Valley on O`ahu.

Needing to earn money to feed his family, he kept asking himself, “Is what I’m doing pono, is it just? Is the knowledge I’m acquiring through the corporate system legitimate, based on my life as an island person and Kanaka Maoli?”

Soon thereafter he walked in, quit his job and dedicated the rest of his life to answering the question, “Is there a way to create just with the unjust?”

Today he and his wife run no less than five associations dedicated to serving those threatened with losing their family land to corporate development.

Don’t miss Ke`eaumoku as he leads us through his own awakening that took him from someone whose life was run by US corporations to the warrior he is today who sits on the County of Maui Cultural Resources Commission and the Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council. See for yourself how he realized the “contemporary management system has nothing to do with our upbringing as Kanaka Maoli,” and the words he lives by – “we must do whatever we can because our land is at stake.”

“Culture, Arts & Hospitality – A Visit With Clifford Nae`ole”

It happens once a month on Friday evenings around a full moon at the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua.

Clifford Nae`ole can be heard talking story as part of a program called Moonlight Mo`olelo.

His tourist audience listens as he tells stories about Hawai`i of old and the indigenous people of Honokahua, the ancient, culturally significant site of pre-contact Hawai`i where the Ritz Carlton sits.

Clifford was the individual from the local community who always stepped forward and spoke up to make sure protocol was being followed when the hotel was being developed.

He was so effective, Ritz Carlton management ended up hiring him as a cultural advisor and then Chairperson for the annual Maui Cultural Arts Festival.

"Education leads to awareness, which in turn inspires accountability, which will ultimately ensure the survival of our people, land, ocean and culture," asserts Clifford. "Many of us have forgotten to 'think island.'"

"The tourist industry needs to realize that they are the guest in the home of the host, not the other way around."

Powerful words of wisdom indeed.

Catch our must-see interview with this visionary whose actions have led to fundamental changes in an industry that’s responsible for making visitor first impressions. Clifford reminds us why it comes full circle - "We live on a finite source. Once we have abused and used whatever sustains us on this land, we are certainly doomed.”

Voices Of Truth interviews those creating a better future for Hawai`i to discover what made them go from armchair observers to active participants in the hopes of inspiring viewers to do the same.

DOUBLE STANDARDS APPLY FOR SUPER(MILITARY)FERRY

State Ethics Commission says Superferry will not be punished

Associated Press - Sunday, May 4th, 2008

HONOLULU (AP) - The state Ethics Commission says Hawai`i Superferry will not be punished for grossly underreporting its lobbying expenses last year.

The company spent nearly 380-thousand dollars lobbying lawmakers in 2007, as it fought an environmental impact statement and then asked for legislation allowing it to resume interisland service.

But Superferry executives initially reported only 22-thousand dollars in expenses.

Executive Director of the state Ethics Commission Dan Mollway says the company cooperated in amending its reported expenses. He says the mistake did not appear intentional.

Ethics Commission records show Superferry spent more than twice as much on lobbying as any other organization in 2007. The second-highest lobbying expenditures were by a pharmaceutical group.

HAWAII KINGDOM GOVERNMENT BACK AT `IOLANI PALACE

US Occupiers Still Trying To "Nickel & Dime" Hawaiian Patriots

Members of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government returned to `Iolani Palace before 6 AM this morning and said they will continue to occupy the mauka side of the grounds indefinitely.

The sovereignty group first arrived on the grounds early Wednesday morning when about 75 of the kingdom's representatives locked and blocked the entrances to the grounds and called it their "seat of government."

Last week, DLNR officials told the group that if they return they must have a permit starting today to assemble on the palace lawn.

Representatives of the kingdom did fill out a request for an assembly permit with the state on Friday, but it was incomplete and returned. The permit was being reviewed again this morning, DLNR officials said.

The kingdom's representatives were also warned that, starting this week, the parking meters on the grounds had to be fed for all of their vehicles or they would be ticketed. Last week, state officials declined to cite the group for not filling the meters.

At least eight parking stalls were being used by the group early this morning.

Mahealani Kahau, the "head of the state" for the Hawaiian Kingdom, was not one of the early arrivals for the sovereignty group, but arrived later.

Her brother, who is the kingdom's "Minister of Interior," was on hand, as was the kingdom's head of security and some guards.

HAWAIIANS WILL PROTEST UNTIL THEY GET THEIR DUE

Honolulu Star-Bulletin May 4, 2000

In response to Robin Voorhies' May 2 letter "Everybody took land from someone else," I will repeat this again for all of the transplants who fail or simply refuse to face the facts that the Hawaiian people are the indigenous inhabitants of this land.

We, unlike other persons, did not steal this land from anyone.

We did not go into other people's countries with guns and cannons and forcibly take their land and possessions.

I also find it revealing that the writer puts Hawaiians on a equal footing with illegal aliens.

This only gives a clearer picture of the mindset of Voorhies and others who agree.

The writer further asks why we can't "just all get along."

Here is your answer - As long as such arrogance and hypocrisy exist, as long as people who have been profoundly wronged are flippantly told to "just get over it" and as long as justice is denied to the Hawaiian people, there will be no cessation of protest and civil disobedience.

PAYING THE THIEVES TO PARK ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

In case anyone missed it, the Hawaiian Government reclaimed `Iolani Palace grounds in Honolulu this last week while the whole world watched.

Media covered the event both across the US and around the world.

But now, the illegal US occupying force through the Hawai`i state Department of Land and Natural Resources is attempting to nickel and dime those brave Hawaiian Government patriots – literally.

They’ve been informed starting tomorrow they’ll need to feed parking meters or be ticketed and must have a permit in order to assemble on Palace grounds lawn.

Come again? You steal my home and then not only try to charge me rent but tell me I need your permission to sit on my own lawn?

What’s wrong with this picture? Try everything.

`Iolani Palace is not a museum, as the US would want you to believe.

Rather it’s the seat of government of the Hawaiian Nation, regardless of lies and denials uttered by those who currently administer the Palace for US occupiers.

While Hawaiian government officials say they want to negotiate space in the adjoining Kanaina building for a one-room office, the opposite should really be the result.

It’s the US that should have that small back office temporarily while it packs its bags to get out.

Fortunately it looks like this was just the first of many more events to come by Hawai`i Nationals to let the US know they’ve worn out their welcome.

“Out Of The Box – A Visit With Hinaleimoana Wong”

Since she was last on Voices Of Truth Hina Wong has been, well, busy.

An educator at two charter schools in Hawai`i, Hina delivers the kind of education students crave – and can get virtually nowhere else.

“You don’t have to go far from home to be successful,” is the message she gives her students at Halau Lokahi charter school on O`ahu and another one on the island of Kaua`i.

Teaching Hawaiian cultural values, she helps her students answer the question, who are we as Hawaiians?

Yet don’t for a minute think it’s only native Hawaiians, as students of all ethnicities attend because, as Hina reminds us, her schools mirror the multicultural population of the independent Hawaiian nation before it was illegally overthrown.

The impact her curriculum has had on her students is both profound and lasting. For the first time they see they don’t have to assimilate to be successful.

Bring your entire `ohana together and watch our visit with Hina as she reminds us the children of Hawai`i really don’t have to go and live somewhere else to make it economically. As she herself says, “we want our people to live and thrive right here.”
