HAWAI`I COURT SINKS SUPERFERRY
SHIP TO CEASE OPERATING THURSDAY
The Hawai`i Superferry said it will cease operations on Thursday following a ruling today by the Hawai`i Supreme Court that went against the inter-island ferry service.
The Hawai`i Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a state law allowing the Superferry to operate without a complete environmental impact statement is unconstitutional....
...State Senator J. Kalani English said the Superferry could have avoided the situation if it agreed to an environmental impact statement at the start of the process.
"It goes back to what we said from the beginning. We told the Superferry, `Simply follow the law,' " he said. "If they did that, none of this would have happened."
