Nanakuli on O`ahuʻs west side, with the highest concentration of native Hawaiians on earth, is where Germaine Meyers was raised and has lived her entire life. As a Nanakuli Hawaiian homestead lessee and beneficiary of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, she became upset that Hawaiians there have been waiting for decades for help from OHA. Realizing someone had to stand up and be the voice of Nanakuli Hawaiians is what transformed Germaine into a beneficiary advocate at OHA meetings to make sure those in her community were not forgotten.
