"SO MUCH HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM OUR GRAVES"
More Response To "Grave Matters" - On Voices Of Truth - One-On-One With Hawai`iʻs Future
Mahalo for sharing this video with us. It is so important for voices to be heard, especially to an immense part of who we are.
So much has been stolen from our graves for too long by archeologists and their bones displayed as trinkets for eyeballs to see the bareness of ones insignificance.
What's also seriously horrific is the jewelry belongs to the archeologist because we are too ignorant to fight for their ukana too.
Turtle shell combs, jewelry, things placed in the coffin by loved ones as they morned real tears, money thrown into the graves - all of which belongs to the archeologist and sold on ebay!...
That was a huge issue with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. And we were standing before these people that were outright stealing monies that didn't belong to them.
And changing the shameful definition of who is native Hawaiian which they say is 50% plus blood quantum.
How so very sad that the people of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs not only told us that we were insignificant to our faces, but to declare our people of Long Ago also insignificant is incomprehensible. So very sad.
But, the benefits of the new social hall being built at Kawaiaha`o Church will be phenomenal with their building on the very souls of our people's bones, just as the OHA people built their careers on newborns that are living under bushes on the side of the road. Pilau people!

KAUA`I LANDOWNER GETS OK TO BUILD HOUSE OVER HAWAIIAN GRAVES

LIHUE - A landowner on Kauai has received state permission to build his house atop 30 ancient Hawaiian graves.
The approval of Joseph Brescia's 16th draft of his burial treatment plan by the State Historic Preservation Division came this week, after it was rejected by the Kauai/Niihau Island Burial Council.
Division Administrator Pua Aiu said the 16th draft provides "adequate protection" to the burials. She cited concrete caps over a number of them and special vertical buffers for one burial that sits under the spot that will one day be the home's driveway.
The state's decision is opposed by Hawaiian cultural practitioner Puanani Rogers, who called it "outrageous."

LIHU`E, KAUA`I - Dozens of Hawaiians and their supporters testified yesterday in tears and with shouts and voices crackling with emotion before the Kaua`i Ni`ihau Burial Council....
"The state has made a mistake, a big, major mistake," said Jim Medeiros, a Big Island resident. "Once you start building on the graveyards, it will become a (precedent) in the state...."
Joseph Brescia, who bought the land in 2000 from actor Sylvester Stallone, has received permits from the county and state to build the home and has already poured the fittings for the home and a concrete cap for the five burials underneath the home....
"The building should not be there, period," said council member Barbara Say yesterday. "I didn't know they were going to be cemented. ... What is wrong with this man?"
