BEVERLY HILLS DEVELOPER THREATENS HAWAIIAN LAND

Native Hawaiian Cultural Sites & Endangered Species At Risk

California developers want to build another gated community that locks locals out of their homeland and destroys our wilderness area forever.

The Sea Mountain Five Development would turn 430 acres in one of the last undeveloped areas in south Hawai`i into a massive construction zone for twenty years in order to build 1500 luxury homes for the wealthy, develop 2 acres for retail space and include 2 high-end resorts with golf courses.

If approved, this development will to destroy a remote area of South Hawai`i Island that has important cultural significance and is very environmentally sensitive and a way of life for local residents.

Punalu`u is a remote area on the south end of Hawai`i Island that provides habitat to hundreds of highly endangered Hawksbill Turtles, Green Sea turtles, monk seals, and thousands of sea birds.

It is an area that is widely relied upon by local people for sustenance and recreation.

Moreover, the area has scores of ancient historic sites, burials and sacred heiau (temples).

Evidence of pre-contact Hawai`i abounds.

Punalu`u in Ka`u is very special area and has been a living classroom for centuries. If it is protected, it can continue to serve as an "Eco-Campus" for students and educators, Hawai`i's residents and visitors.
