HAWAI`I A VOICE FOR SOVEREIGNTY TO SCREEN AT WAIROA MAORI FILM FESTIVAL

WAIROA, AOTEAROA - Hawai`i A Voice For Sovereignty will screen Monday June 7th at 10:00 AM in Kahungunu Marae, Nuhaka, Wairoa District at the Wairoa Maori Film Festival in Aotearoa (New Zealand.) Everyone is welcome.

One of the goals of Hawai`i A Voice For Sovereignty by filmmaker Catherine Bauknight and the Native Hawaiian people, is to enlighten the world regarding the truth about a Free Hawai`i.

One year ago on June 4th, the film was released at a private screening at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.

On June 21st it had its public premiere at the Maui Film Festival, and was awarded the Audience Award, Best Hawai`i Film.

Hawai`i A Voice For Sovereignty has also screened at venues in Hawai`i, NY City, Canada, Los Angeles, and Santa Cruz, CA.

VOICES OF TRUTH – ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I’S FUTURE EXPANDS TO FOREIGN LANDS

The Koani Foundation is pleased to announce its award winning television show Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future is now airing in broadcast markets outside Hawai`i and even the US.

In the last few weeks Voices Of Truth, in its sixth season, has debuted on local access television in Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Wisconsin as well as Tonga and Sweden.

As it continues growing in popularity, Voices Of Truth will expand into cities across the United States and the world throughout 2010. Stay tuned as we keep you informed of plans for growth and expansion of the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network.

RACIAL SLUR = $$$?

Barbarian Princess Movie Title Used To Grab Viewers

Marc Forby, the writer and director of the Barbarian Princess movie, claims that he is using the term “barbarian” in the title of the movie only to attract more viewers and that he doesn’t mean to offend anyone. This is a specious excuse.

In the Nineteenth Century, the term “barbarian” was intentionally used to denigrate, demean, mock and injure its intended target, in this case, Princess Ka`iulani. It was a racial/ethnic slur in the same way “n- - - - -“ (the “N-word”) is used by Americans today.

A slur is a slur. It is particularly offensive when it is being used to promote box-office receipts. By Forby’s reasoning, it would be OK to do a movie about Barach Obama and call it the “N- - - - - President” because it would attract more customers.

Shame on Marc Forby and shame on the people who accept his smooth-talking jive. If Forby cannot grasp that the very title of his movie is a direct affront to Ka`iulani (and all Hawaiians) then and now, how can we think that his movie won’t likewise smear the truth?

"HAWAI`I  A VOICE FOR SOVEREIGNTY" WINS FILM & VIDEO AWARDS

Catherine Bauknight's feature documentary film, "Hawai`i A Voice For Sovereignty", has been awarded the Best Documentary Feature Film and Best Environmental Film awards at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.

"I'm incredibly happy to have received recognition from such a prestigious film festival in New York.", Bauknight says. "These awards are certainly of importance to the film, but more importantly, to the Hawaiian people. They have put a lot of their heart and soul into this documentary to get their message out to the world for sovereign rights in their homeland. 

"To have a venue such as New York appreciate the importance of the Hawaiian culture, their relationship to the land, and their concern for the environment, is outstanding. 

"The world is becoming aware of the Native Hawaiians and the importance of their magnificent culture! Aloha Ke Akua," she stated.

Earlier this year, at the Maui Flm Festival, Bauknight's film was presented with The Audience Award - Best Hawai`i Film.

Next be screening will be Nov. 4, 2009 at the American Film Market in Los Angeles for worldwide distribution.
