THE FRAUD OF FEDERAL RECOGNITION ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

This last week it was announced the Akaka bill, federal US legislation that would legitimize Hawai`i’s illegal overthrow and turn native Hawaiians into American Indians placing them on reservations, will be discussed at a Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing May 3rd in Washington DC.

The Akaka bill is pure perversion of the people’s will since poll after poll in Hawai`i has shown overwhelming public opposition.

It’s telling the hearings are in Washington, DC rather that at home.

The only time a hearing was held in Hawai`i on federal recognition was over seven years ago and so many people turned out to voice their opposition, they were forced to discontinue hearings.

Currently, the Koani Foundation is focusing on why this legislation would be such a disaster for the people of Hawai`i in our weekly video commentaries on www.FreeHawaiiTV.com a part of the Free Hawai`i Broadcasting Network.

This last week, we covered why virtually no one in Hawai`i has seen the latest version of the bill and the danger of buying it sight unseen.

This coming Wednesday, you’ll learn the three important things the Akaka bill does not contain as well as the one deadly thing it does.

Then over the following two weeks, we’ll cover why the US is trying so hard to get you to believe it’s no longer possible to have a Free Hawai`i and we’ll reveal some of the individuals who are behind this.

It’s both surprising and shocking news you’ll want to know and it’s on www.FreeHawaiiTV.com

We bring you the important issues each week as well as people with the facts behind them so you can decide for yourself - whether on Free Hawai`i TV or right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

NEW PROGRAMMING CHANGE NOTES - Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future is now seen on Maui on Akaku, Channel 53 on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM and Wednesday mornings at 6:30 AM and across Hawai`i Island now on Channel 53, Na Leo at our regularly scheduled days and times.

“A Journey Of Occupation – A Visit With Andre Perez”

What would it be like to be in the US military for eight years, then find yourself living on the streets?

That’s what happened to Andre Perez who went from one extreme to another.

And from the streets, he found his way into the Kaho`olawe occupation, which, by his own accounts, was a life-changing experience.

It had to be because Andre’s never at a loss for words when it comes to defending his people that led him to the next chapter of his life.

Currently the spokesperson for Hui Pu, as well as a Halau Lokahi teacher, Andre recently found himself in the middle of yet another occupation – the dramatic taking of `Iolani Palace by Hui Pu to publicly oppose the Akaka bill.

As we look to the future of Hawai`i, we’re sure you’ll agree with us that Andre and others like him will play a prominent role in it.

Don’t miss our visit with Andre who’s part of the new generation of warriors who are as fearless as they are articulate. You’ll see why he’s a role model for the `opio (youth) of today as well as a leader for tomorrow.

She shares with us in telling and pictures about her participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. as the leader of the Hawaiian weavers delegation for Carriers of Culture: Living Native Basket Traditions.

Then Sabra gives us a tantalizing review and much background information on the phenomenal Ho`okahi Kapa - the contemporary kapa exhibit at Bishop Museum with more incredible photos.

And finally if all that isn’t enough, she goes on to describe what very few have ever gotten to see firsthand on her own island - Nu`alolo Kai, an ancient Kaua`i valley left untouched for hundreds of years the way the people of old left it.

Don’t miss this incredible segment as Sabra describes her involvement in the caretaking of this amazing site on the Na Pali Coast. The entire show is filled with stories and photos you’ll long remember of all three events.

“Life On The Beach – A Visit With Marie Beltran”

What would it be like to be houseless and living on the beach with your family?

Marie Beltran has called Mokule`ia beach home for the last fourteen years.

Yet here’s the most amazing part – she lives there because she wants to.

Marie tells us she’s had visitors literally from all over the world come and visit – and sometimes stay for dinner.

And even though she has aloha for everyone, don’t take her for granted. She’s quick to remind us all that aloha is a two way street.

You’ll hear her message to the US federal government – “We treated you with aloha when you arrived; now treat us with aloha by returning our Nation.”

Don’t miss this moving segment with this very special person, See life through the eyes of a family which lives life far simpler than most of us, yet rich with aloha for everyone.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Despite Overwhelming Opposition In Hawai`i, US Senate Committee Sets Akaka Bill Hearing

By Dennis Camire
- Honolulu Advertiser Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — A bill extending a federal policy of self-governance and self-determination to Native Hawaiians will be discussed at a Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing May 3, setting up a new struggle to push it through Congress....

The so-called Akaka bill would create a process for the federal government to recognize a Native Hawaiian government....

Over the years, Senate Republicans have blocked the bill, arguing that it would set up an unconstitutional race-based government.

Last year, they blocked a bipartisan effort to force a final debate and vote on the bill with a 56-41 vote, short of the 60 votes needed.

But first, the bill must again clear the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Byron L. Dorgan, D-N.D., also a co-sponsor....

HAWAIIANS TO OBSERVE ANCIENT HISTORIC BATTLE

Na Papa Kanaka o Pu`ukohola Heiau
Extends Invitation To Annual Commemoration Of The Battle Of Nu`uanu

This is the 13th year that we gather to remember the Battle of Nu`uanu which was fought in 1795.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Pali lookout on O`ahu and will begin at 6:00 a.m.

Traditional chants and hula will follow.

Guest speakers will give the history of the battle and the warriors involved.

The tradition of honoring the warriors of the Battle of Nu`uanu began in 1995 at the 200th anniversary of the battle.

This commemoration consisted of a midnight walk from Kapi`olani Park, Waikiki, and reached the Pali summit at dawn. We were honored to have a large attendance of almost 1000 on that walk. It was a memorable and moving event.

Since then we have marked the anniversary with the greeting of the dawn following ancient protocol.

The public is invited to attend this annual remembrance and are welcome to bring ho`okupu (a gift from the heart.)

Come here the stories of the past. We are who we were.

REVERED HAWAIIAN ELDER PROTESTS US INVASION OF HAWAI`I

Auntie Nona Beamer Decries Wanton Disregard & Destruction

The fragile and sacred land of Hawai`i is our precious heritage and our home.

Even as we are struggling to maintain and restore US damage to our land, the Government is continuing to desecrate more of Hawai`i nei.

This letter is my impassioned plea to STOP any further invasion of our sacred homeland...

I will point out that there has been irreparable damage to Kaho`olawe which suffered U.S. bombardment since the 1940s.

Kane`ohe Bay was once an important food source, the "breadbasket" of the people. It was dredged by the U.S. military and turned into a Marine Base.

Our cherished Le`ahi, Diamond Head crater, has been ripped up and scarred and trampled on.

Moku`ula, the ancient sacred fishpond in Lahaina, Maui, was fed by a freshwater stream. It was callously filled and destroyed.

Other examples exist that are too numerous to mention here.

For over 100 years, the United States of America has shamelessly, for profit and personal gain, taken advantage of both the people of Hawai`i and the land of our ancestors.

Under President Cleveland, Queen Lili`uokalani was illegally removed and sentenced to exile. In 1898, against the petitions of the people, Hawai`i was annexed to the United States, and land was confiscated.

During World War II, more land was confiscated for the use of the U.S. military.

In 1959, when Hawai`i became a state, the native voice was again ignored...

...The health of the native people is the worst in this state. The schools rank among the lowest in the nation.

The needs of the native people are not being met, yet money is appropriated by the US Government for the destruction of our land...

...Give heed to our voices. We have extended aloha to you, and you seek to extinguish our very being.

Respect us - be aware that we are a sovereign international nation.

We are the descendants of a mighty civilization and deserve to be heard and acknowledged!

With utmost sincerity,

Nona Beamer

SAYING "NO" TO ILLEGAL OVERTHROW ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

This coming weekend, Hawaiian National patriots and supporters of a Free Hawai`i will gather in Hawai`i as well as across the US to observe the second annual Day of Prayer for Hawaiian Restoration.

A delegation from Hawai`i headed by the Reverend Kaleo Patterson will travel to honor US President Grover Cleveland in his home State of New Jersey for his public outrage and defense of Queen Lili`uokalani at the time of the illegal overthrow.

The Justice Witness Committee of the Hawai`i Conference of the United Churches of Christ and the National UCC have endorsed this project.

On Sunday, April 29th, ho`okupu (offerings) ceremonies in Princeton Cemetery at Cleveland's gravesite will take place as well as a special ho`okupu dedication at the Cleveland Monument at Princeton University.

Monday and Tuesday, commemorative proclamations will be delivered to New Jersey government officials.

This annual observance of the actions of President Cleveland and Queen Lili`uokalani is an effort to bring Na Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiians) together with supporters of a Free Hawai`i such as church bodies, to raise common awareness, develop a national education strategy and bring about broad support for Na Kanaka Maoli Justice and Reconciliation.

All who support a Free Hawai`i are invited to join with the planned activities.

Our shows this week feature individuals who, like more and more people from every walk of life, both in Hawai`i, across the US and the world are saying a clear “A`ole” ("No") to US occupation of Hawai`i.

Check them out for yourself right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“Songs For Our Soul – A Visit With Liko Martin”

Hawai`i has a lot of singers and songwriters, but none more talented than Liko Martin.

We’ve been trying to get Liko to join us on the show for quite a while and it was definitely worth the wait.

Liko is a musician’s musician – his talents and abilities are up there with the best the world over.

He tells us details of his just finished sessions in a recording studio in Oakland, California with “A list” performers, and even about a Hawaiian opera he’s currently writing!

Perhaps best known for his “Hawai`i Loa Ku Like Kakou, All Hawai`i Stand Together,” Liko has seen and done it all – from Hollywood to Hawai`i, and for the first time reveals what the journey has been like and taught him.

Here’s your opportunity to catch one of Hawai`i’s most unique and treasured talents as he talks about his life, his music, how it comes to him, the role model that inspired it all and how he went from living in a car on the streets of Los Angeles to being one of Hawai`i’s premier musicians today.

“Even They Can See It – A Visit With Maui Solomon & Rebecca Tsosie”

Maui Solomon, a Maori from Aotearoa (New Zealand,) and Rebecca Tsosie, a member of the Yaqui tribe from southern Arizona, come from two different worlds geographically apart.

Yet, they have much in common.

Successful attorneys, both Maui and Rebecca focus their legal practice in helping to protect their own native people.

And both have seen the devastating effects of federal recognition in their own lands.

“Don’t let it happen here,” is the message they brought to us loud and clear.

By describing what did happen to their people after federal recognition, we have an opportunity to see both the “before and after” picture. And it’s one they tell us it’s a mistake we don’t ever want to make.

You’ll be as hooked as we were as they describe the very same slick arguments and false promises their own politicians put forth to sell federal recognition as those we’ve heard in Hawai`i. And you'll be equally as disgusted when you hear the results. Compelling as they are convincing, their message is one all of us need to hear.

NATIVE HAWAIIAN EXPERT SAYS "NO" TO AKAKA BILL

Respected Professor Interviewed In Indian Country Today

Indian Country Today - April 20, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Why should Native Hawaiians who have never relinquished their inherent sovereignty settle for the lesser status of federal recognition that is being put forward in the ''Akaka Bill''?

They shouldn't, says J. Kehaulani Kauanui.

Kauanui, a Native Hawaiian and an assistant professor of anthropology and American studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, presented a short history of Hawai`i/U.S. relations and her views of the Akaka Bill in a talk called ''The Politics of Native Hawaiian Self-Determination: U.S. Federal Policy v. International law'' at Yale University on April 4....

...A compelling argument against federal recognition is how federally recognized tribes are treated now, Kauanui said....

''...Why should we do that? It seems a more critical time than ever for Hawaiians and all U.S. citizens to critically question why there should not be a Hawaiian embassy in Washington, D.C. Instead of negotiating with the Department of the Interior, Hawaiians have the un-extinguished right to negotiate instead with the U.S. Department of State,'' Kauanui said.

SHOULD APRIL 30TH OF EVERY YEAR BE PROCLAIMED AS HAWAIIAN RESTORATION DAY ?

Here's What One Long Time Activist Says -

My name is Melvin Lono Kaiolohia Kalahiki and I am a long time advocate of affairs stemming from the 1893 illegal overthrow, the annexation and the U.S. occupation of the Hawaiian Nation.

As you all know for a good part of the 20th century there was a blackout of information on the events of 1893.

Nothing of that was taught in our schools and very little accurate information in the media. We were not taught our history or our language.

I am nearing 82, and I can remember when I first learned the true story of what happened in 1893.

I did not learn it in school.

I learned it when I was a grown man with a family of my own. I remember when I first read the following words of President Cleveland regarding the illegal overthrow...."As I look and contemplate the means used to complete this outrage, I am ashamed of the whole affair."

These words have stayed with me ever since.

Those words are a good reason why this Resolution, which is before you, should pass. It is an honorable document.

ECONOMY DRIVING AWAY HAWAIIANS AND THEIR ALOHA

Unless we immediately find a way to preserve and help Hawaiians, the tourism industry will soon find aloha harder to sell.

With the cost of homes soaring into the millions and thousands of Hawaiian families being forced to move to the US continent, we are depleting our greatest natural resource for aloha.

Regardless of myopic rationalization by evolutionists that Hawaiians were just lucky they got here first, the place we live and the reason we love it is purely Hawaiian.

As Hawaiians lose their young to hopelessness and despair and moving away, aloha is in trouble.

The Hawaiians who grow up angry all go to prison, and the poor wind up living on the beach until we roust them.

Those of you who found no problem in plopping $100,000 or more down on a home just to resell it - including brokers who buy their listings - are adding to the problem if you don't reach out and help others who can't.

Greed, selfishness, nepotism and a lust for control are western concepts and have no place in Hawai`i.

QUICKEST WAY TO KILL THE HAWAIIAN CULTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE-WITH HAWAI`I'S FUTURE

All too often visitors witness Hawaiian culture in the context of “this is how we were,” rather than “this is how we are.

“Yes, the overthrow was illegal but that’s over and done. Like it or not, you’re all Americans now.”

Sound familiar?

The simple truth is Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) and Hawaiian Kingdom Nationals will never be Americans automatically.

They’ll only become US citizens if they themselves choose to, since Hawai`i never legally became part of the US.

Yet the Office of Hawaiian Affairs tells us “we’re all Americans now,” in proof again they’re working against Hawaiians when they should be working for them.

Worse, while attempting to gain more signatures on their bogus Kau Inoa registry, it’s been revealed they’ll actually be using that list to claim signers support the Akaka bill – federal recognition, which would turn Kanaka Maoli into American indians and classify them as wards of the US federal government, the same status US federal prisoners enjoy.

What effect will this have on the health and vitality of the Hawaiian culture?

It doesn’t take a genius to answer that.

Hawaiians know the future and the vitality of the culture lies not in Kau Inoa or federal recognition, but in a Free Hawai`i.

We bring you two inspiring examples of that this week in Sabra Kauka of Kaua`i and Marie Beltran of O`ahu.

Both powerful wahine Maoli (Hawaiian women) show us ever so clearly the answers and future are within the genius of each Kanaka Maoli, and not 4,000 miles away in Washington, DC.

Take a moment and catch them here this week, and you’ll see exactly what we mean on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

HAWAIIANS FORCED TO SUE FOR THEIR HOMES

Thousands Die While Waiting Years For Property

A class action lawsuit against the "state of Hawai`i" seeking money damages for past breaches of trust by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will proceed following certification by Circuit Judge Victoria Marks yesterday.

At issue is whether DHHL and the state breached their trust obligations to Native Hawaiians by failing to place them on homesteads in a prompt manner, and imposing rules that made it more difficult for Native Hawaiians to benefit from the program.

Some of the class members have died waiting, attorney Carl Varady said.

The plan for proceeding approved by Marks "streamlines the process in such a way that we can get a prompt resolution of these claims and there will be fewer people to die waiting for this case to come to its conclusion, fewer people to die waiting for a homestead."

LISTEN TO WHAT ONE HAWAIIAN SAYS ABOUT BEING PART OF THE US

Hawaiians never accepted this labelling of being US citizens but were forced as hostages into it in order to hold jobs in their own country.

Hawai`i Nationals resented the US intrusion till today and many of the subsequent generations suffered from the Stockhome Syndrome; conditioned to believe they were US Americans.

Under the laws of occupation, the US continuously violates and ignores the guidelines - one of which is having its own citizens relocate to the Hawaiian Kingdom.

The other these miscreants violate are the laws of neutrality which the Hawaiian Kingdom declared itself to be; a status akin to that of Switzerland.

These violations deem the US as being criminal, covetous, and makes a mockery of the rule of law; hypocritcal of democracy; biased of justice; enemy of freedom; and derelict of human rights.

These criminally manipulative actions have dishonored the US which cannot be wiped away in our eyes until it deoccupies our nation-state.

We await the conscienceness of the USA to right the wrongs which it has committed against us.

We love our country as much as US Americans love theirs.

Would you expect any less?

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR THE OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS' KAU INOA REGISTRY, READ THIS!

Did You Know Kau Inoa Is Now Used To Register People In Favor Of The Akaka Bill?

Ask yourselves these questions -

1.- Would you prefer to be listed as a native American with tribal status which can be eliminated at the whim of Congress or maintain your Hawai`i National status of the already existing Hawaiian Kingdom?

2.- Would you want a US created Hawaiian puppet government to steal the authority and jurisdiction of the Hawaiian Kingdom to negotiate away your land and resources to the US?

3.- Would you rather be controlled by US bureaucrats 4,000 miles away or
in your homeland where you make the decisions?

4.- Do you think you have a voice concerning Hawai`i as a US citizen, or as a member of the Hawaiian Kingdom?

Are you looking for an immediate band-aid handout or long-term security to call the shots in protecting yourself?

STEALING THE HAWAIIAN NATION - ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Here's How The US & Office Of Hawaiian Affairs Are Planning To Do It -

By their own laws, the US cannot simply walk in and take Hawaiian land titles and erase the word "Royal" and replace it with "United States" Patent.

They and the State of Hawai`i have never had clear title to land in Hawai`i since Jan 17, 1893. They know this.

The only way the United States will ever be able to get clear title to Hawaiian Islands is if Hawaiians give it to them.

This is why title to the Hawaiian islands never transferred to the United States by the Newlands resolution.

The Newlands resolution relied on a treaty of Annexation from the republic of Hawai`i.

But the Republic never owned title because the Kingdom of Hawai`i never gave it to them.

But now they got a plan -they are going to get Hawaiians to give title to them.

How Will They Do That?

They are already trying to register a majority of Hawaiians on a "Kau Inoa" roll.

Then they're going to draft governing documents to "re-organize the Hawaiian government."

They 're going to get Hawaiians to elect officers to that government.

Next, they're going to make sure those governing documents give the officers of the government the authority to give away title in negotiations.

Then, they're going to try to get the majority of Hawaiians on the roll to vote for the new governing documents to reorganize the Hawaiian government.

Then that government authorized and approved by the majority of Hawaiians will sit down at the negotiating table with the US and trade land title for cash and benefits
.

Many people believe that only the Kingdom of Hawai`i is authorized to give a way title to the Hawaiian Islands - and they are correct, but only as long as the kingdom remains intact.

If the majority of its subjects revolt by forming a new government, the kingdom no longer exists.

A big mahalo to all who contacted us this last week with feedback on our new segment showcasing Sabra Kauka.

You’re correct – Sabra is indeed an inspiration to watch as well as learn from in keeping the culture alive. She’s surely one of today’s prototype wahine Hawai`i Maoli (Native Hawaiian women.)

Those of you who’ve commented on our featuring several wahine lately on Voices Of Truth are also correct.

From Marie Beltran, to Sabra and Manu Meyer, we do so because of the fundamental and important role women play in a Free Hawai`i.

So if you have a mother, daughter, sister, niece or cousin who’s struggling to find her place in creating a better future for Hawai`i, have her catch Sabra and Manu this week for a little inspiration and direction.

Both are indeed faces of a Free Hawai`i on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“Aloha Is Our Intelligence – A Visit With Manu Aluli Meyer”

“If knowledge is power, then understanding is liberation.”

Manu Myer is not your average educator - or human being for that matter.

Growing up as someone who was much better in the school yard than with school books, Manu quickly developed what few of her teacher’s saw – an incredible intellect and capacity for motivating others.

Today, Manu is in a class all by herself – as comfortable with Hawaiian epistemology and quantum physics as she is with her own ukulele.

Having just returned from a year in Aotearoa (New Zealand) packed with incredible adventures and experiences, she reveals not only what she learned, but why the people and `aina of that placed have so deeply affected her.

HAWAIIAN NATIONAL SPEAKS OUT ON FEDERAL RECOGNITION

Letter To Editor In Office Of Hawaiian Affairs Newspaper Takes OHA To Task For Selling Out Hawaiian Kingdom Nationals

“…the US government redefines Native American status and redefines Hawaiian Kingdom status as being only one ethnicity.

However, contrary to popular belief, the Hawaiian Kingdom is composed of a multi-ethnic citizenry.

Hawaiian nationals reject the US proposal to diminish our status from peer to the USA, to a subjected wardship of the USA.

Our status is like that of Switzerland, a neutral state with external sovereignty recognition.

…[The Akaka bill] is a US domestic law and policy external to the Hawaiian Kingdom, which is subject to its own laws.

…We deplore the illusionary Akaka bill and will continue to fight it.

…Hawai`i’s situation is an embarrassment to the USA.”

WE FOUND OUT WE WERE KIDNAPPED

Hawaiian Nationals Angry At Plans To Celebrate "Statehood"

"
To me, statehood is not a reason for celebration," said David Keanu Sai, a University of Hawai`i political science lecturer who is preparing a dissertation on Hawaiian sovereignty.

"We've been led to believe that we were adopted, and then we found out we were kidnapped."

HERE'S WHAT ONE MISSOURIAN HAD TO SAY ABOUT HIS TRIP TO HAWAI `I

Part Two -

There is a group of 100% native Hawaiians on the Northwest corner of Oahu who live on beaches in tents.

There are no white people there.

They came to these islands with plenty of resources and money.

Property values went up exponentially every year, which forced the Hawaiians off their land and into destitute living environments on beaches with tarps for roofs.

These people need their voices back!

They need the land that was stolen from them by the resorts and high rises. This aggression will not stand.

The trip was amazing, but it opened my eyes to how much these Hawaiian people truly lost from our gain.

Not everyone's treasure is the same.

HERE'S WHAT ONE MISSOURIAN HAS TO SAY ABOUT HIS TRIP TO HAWAI`I

From Gregory Soden Of Columbia Missouri -

I just got back to Missouri from Hawai`i.

It was depressing feeling the plane land in the state of my birth knowing that on the other side of the world is a place that needs me much more than here.

Hawai`i is beautiful. we all know that. For that reason, we want to go there, but there is so much more to it than beauty.

There is also theft and rape of culture.

The Hawaiians (the one's outside of Honolulu and Waikiki) do not approve of the United States being there.

They don't want to be a state. They want their independence....

Put yourself in their shoes.

Your family (successfully) rules a country for 2000 years and then some white folks from a world away come in and say "OK this is it. We need these islands, that just happen to be spectacularly beautiful, for our south pacific military stronghold, and guess what?!?!?!? YOU GET TO BE A STATE!!! Hot Diggity Dog!"

What a joke.

CARRIER OF THE CULTURE ON VOICES OF TRUTH - ONE-ON-ONE WITH HAWAI'I`S FUTURE

There are those who know something about a subject. Then there are those who have certain skill sets to make it happen.

But then there are those who take what they know and spread that knowledge far and wide.

There’s actually a term for those individuals – carriers.

A couple of seasons ago, we had Native Hawaiian practitioner Sabra Kauka on Voices Of Truth talking about her fascinating basket weaving skills.

This week she’s back in a brand new show sharing with us in both pictures and words what it was like to go to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC and participate as part of the Hawaiian weavers delegation in a critically acclaimed native basket weavers display.

And since she also happens to be a kapa maker herself on Kaua`i, she gives us a tour of the Bishop museum’s amazing contemporary kapa exhibit, showcasing the very best of today’s’ kapa makers and their one of a kind creations.

But Sabra doesn’t stop there.

To fully appreciate all she’s involved in, she also shares with us her involvement in the caretaking of Nu`alolo Kai valley on Kaua`i an ancient place of stunning beauty and history that few of us ever get to see firsthand.

Sabra’s definitely an example of someone who found her place to participate in keeping her culture alive.

So if you’re up for learning about some incredible and yet very practical works of art, be sure and catch Sabra this week.

And that’s what it’s about – inspiring us all to become active participants in creating a Free Hawai`i right here on Voices Of Truth – One-On-One With Hawai`i’s Future.

“A Journey Of Occupation – A Visit With Andre Perez"

What would it be like to be in the US military for eight years, then find yourself living on the streets?

That’s what happened to Andre Perez who went from one extreme to another.

And from the streets, he found his way into the Kaho`olawe occupation, which, by his own accounts, was a life-changing experience.

It had to be because Andre’s never at a loss for words when it comes to defending his people that led him to the next chapter of his life.

Currently the spokesperson for Hui Pu, as well as a Halau Lokahi teacher, Andre recently found himself in the middle of yet another occupation – the dramatic taking of `Iolani Palace last year by Hui Pu to publicly oppose the Akaka bill.
